Changed transfer case and rear end lube today and found out that my transfer case was leaking.
I had picked up some Redline heavy shockproof and when my friend was helping me change it he goes damn man we prolly are not going to get much out of this xfer case, its leaking bad.
Sure enough when he pulled the drain plug hardly any lube ran out. About 1 3rd of a quart if that. He said I should try to get a new xfer case and that they were recalled anyway. He went out to tell me his ran dry about 2 years ago and locked up on him and the local dealer had to install a new one which didnt cost shit.
Well I did some looking around on this forum and found this to be true for the most part and I've been running the car for god knows how long with really low lube it seems so I'm worried about damage to the inside of the xfer case or its gears.
How hard is it to really get the dealer to replace it?
One of my other friends said when his ran dry all they would do was replace the seal and fill it back up and about 6 months later he then had to return and have it replaced because it developed problems. He always felt they shoulda replaced it to start with but got no where when fighting with them.
Can anyone recommend a good dealer in Michigan who might be easier to deal with?
