Changed transfer case and rear end lube today and found out that my transfer case was leaking.

I had picked up some Redline heavy shockproof and when my friend was helping me change it he goes damn man we prolly are not going to get much out of this xfer case, its leaking bad.

Sure enough when he pulled the drain plug hardly any lube ran out. About 1 3rd of a quart if that. He said I should try to get a new xfer case and that they were recalled anyway. He went out to tell me his ran dry about 2 years ago and locked up on him and the local dealer had to install a new one which didnt cost shit.

Well I did some looking around on this forum and found this to be true for the most part and I've been running the car for god knows how long with really low lube it seems so I'm worried about damage to the inside of the xfer case or its gears.

How hard is it to really get the dealer to replace it?

One of my other friends said when his ran dry all they would do was replace the seal and fill it back up and about 6 months later he then had to return and have it replaced because it developed problems. He always felt they shoulda replaced it to start with but got no where when fighting with them.

Can anyone recommend a good dealer in Michigan who might be easier to deal with?

If it's not locked up I doubt that they will replace the whole thing because the recall is just the yoke seal. If the fluid didn't come out silver than it's probably fine anyways and you could just have the seal replaced and fill it with fluid.

It was ran dry... Even the guy at the dealer said thats not good. Infact he said he would replace the whole xfer case if the the rep ok'ed it.

I'm about to call back and find out whats up.

I doubt they will ok it UNLESS the recall had been done before on the car. I wanted a new transfer case because mine leaked for the 2nd time and even then they just did the yoke and seal.

Recall has been done twice before, before I got the car and this time it was dry.

ok guys heres the facts go to alldata.com and they show all the safety recalls, and service bullitins, you will be surprised about all the problems there are. AND FOR ALL GSX TSi AWD CARS AS WELL ASS THE LOVELY 3000GT VR-4 ALL THE TRANSFER CASES HAD OIL LEAKAGE PROBLEMS. the dealers in my area are a bunch of @$$ holes- because i gave them the last 4 numbers/digits of my vin code and they said that there was never a recall at all but since i printed out the sheet im going down there and bit*** at them and they need to fix this major dsm problem. Hope this helps it helped me just took awile to do the research. :talon: :talon: :laser: :laser: :dsm: :dsm:

the recall kit is for the yoke only. It is not for the t-case. If it is damaged, it is up to the dealer really wether or not to change it and it seems you are dealing with some assholes.

Where is it leaking from? The rear seal, or the shaft seal? Did you inspect the seals for damage?

I just got finished yesterday replacing all my seals in the tranny and t-case and today i am going to try to get to the recall. You can get the kit if you don't feel like dealing with the a-hole dealers from diamondstar. I bought the kit and all the seals from them.

Did you ever take out your driveshaft before? The oil would have leaked out if you did.

There is only the rear seal and the shaft seal that holds the oil in, the only other place it can even get out is the drain plug.
