Hey guys, I just change the coolant in my 1gen with some G05 stuff ... My coolant was infected as hell so I decided to clean my system. Since I wanted to remove the coolant in the engine I unplug both radiator hoses and started to shoot water true the upper hose in the engine. Well it didn't flow like I expected at the lower hose ... Anyway I finished cleaning the system and fill it with new coolant. Now my car is at a normal temperature but I don't have any hot aire in my heater ... (I know I had some this morning)

Did I ####ed something up shooting water true my block or it might just be the thermostat who gone bad at the same time ... ?!

Thanks guys !

Sounds like maybe you have air bubbles in your system which isn't cool (no pun intended), did you make sure to start out by leaving the rad cap off and have the car run for a bit like that?

Sometimes too you need to squeeze the heater hoses and radiator hoses to help the air bubbles get out.

That's where I would start.

Edit:
Also I would feel all the hoses once the temp gauge reads normal operating temp to make sure the coolant is flowing through the entire system, any cold hoses is a sign of blockage from possibly something you loosened but didn't get out.

When you say it didn't flow like you expected at the lower hose what do you mean? No flow at all or just slower flowing water?

When I pushed water in the upper hose I was expecting to see more water come out of the lower one ... No I didn't start the car with the rad cap off and just did a 30minutes trip ... Should I go out and do it once it cool down ?

Both upper and lower radiator hose are hot so it should flow ?

Most of the time this is the proper filling procedure. Leave radiator cap off and fill all the way up. Start the car and turn the heater on high and hottest setting it can go. Let it get to normal operating tempand until the termostat opens and fan for the radiater turns on. It should drop. Keek feeling. It will spill out a bit once the thermostate closes. Do that same procedure a few times until you see zero air bubbles come up.

Ok I tryed it again and I was able to see some aire bubble coming out ... Did it for 5 minutes and still got no heat ...

By the way after cheking bubble for 5 minutes the upper radiator hose was hot and guess what the lower one was cold !?

  1. Remove radiator cap.
  2. Start DSM.
  3. Turn on heater to FULL BLAST and HOT!
  4. Observe coolant temp gauge until it reaches 1/4 of the way.
  5. Squeeze the lower radiator hose continuously as the car is still warming up, this will "burp" the air pockets in the heater core and radiator.
  6. Watch the t-stat housing for air bubbles, keep filling the coolant system up as air bubbles are "burped" out and the coolant level lowers.
  7. Once there aren't anymore bubbles rising to the t-stat housing replace the cap and happy boosting.
Be careful, the exhaust manifold and radiator fans will bite if you get your hand close. You want to do this until your car reaches full operating temp which is 180*+ or halfway up the coolant temp gauge, showing NO air bubbles.

Seriously Im starting to thing that my heater core is plugged ... I think I'll disconnect the hose that go in it and try to shoot water to see if it come out by the other.

I had heat this morning but not that much ...

Also I had to put the AC at "On" to see coolant circulating in the radiator cap' hole ...

Yeah something definitely seems plugged in that case, you probably jarred something loose in your coolant system and it's not stuck, you may have to flush your heater core or radiator.

Radiator would be the easiest to do first to see if that fixes your issue, I'd take it all the way out of the car and force feed it some water with a hose both ways (force from top port and then switch to force from bottom).

People really need to get off this turning it to high heat business. Defiant's methods when it comes to the DSM cooling system, have never failed me.
Heres a good example of that. My Heater Doesn't Blow Hot

Most don't know who Defiant is, its been a long time since he's graced this site with his presents.

Just ordered new Coolant (Green this time) and a new thermostat. I was thinking of trying a new thermostat first since I didn't see the coolant flowing untill I put the AC on so I have the impression that my t-stat is stuck close ...

You know the lower radiator hose was cold and the upper one was hot ...

I also add a radiator flush to my order, so everything should be in stock in less than 2 hours. I don't care draining the new coolant out, HEY IT'S A D$M !

So how does it work ? I think my heater core is plugged or a bad t-stat so I was thinking of putting the new t-stat in and chek if I see the coolant flow in the radiator cap. If I still got no heat I was thinking of unplugging the heater core' hoses and shoot water or aire in it to see if it's clogged.

Should I flush the new coolant before trying that ?

So should I put new coolant and flush all the system again before trying the new t-stat ? Should I drill a burp hole in it even if there's jiggle vavle on the thermostat to let the air out ... ? I've read it might help !?

I would..
1. Replace thermostat.
2. Flush heater core to check for blockage.
3. Suspect water pump.

With the upper rad. hose being warm and the bottom being cold I would suspect the water pump is not working. The heater core gets coolant directly from after the block from my understanding. The water pump pulls through the front water pipe and gets coolant from the radiator and heater core. If its not working I dont think there would be hot coolant in the H. core due to no cold coolant being pulled from it.

Are your upper/lower heater core hoses hot/cold??

Like I said the upper radiator hose is hot and the lower one cold after 20minutes of idle ... Also I never saw the coolant going thru the heater core untill I start the AC and that should not affect it ?!

Usually as said before its most comonly an air bubble in the system just et the car reach running temp while sitting put the cap back on go for a drive your temp gauge should be reading 165-185 depending on your thermostat. If still no heat then i would suggest blockage or even water pump failure.

Just went back from the road test. New stat is in, upper and lower radiator hose was hot after the trip. I checked the heater hose and one is real hot and the other one is cold, so that mean my heater core is plugged ? Still got no heat by the way ...

If it is that makes me want to disconnect the heater hoses and push water in it to see if it's clogged ...

Haven't tryed the rad flush yet ...

I would say at this point your heater core seems plugged. I would try to back flush it (I don't THINK this would be bad for it). Undo both HC hoses and put the water spigot on the one that was connected to the thermostat housing. That might push the blockage out. Hopefully you wont need a new heater core.

I just realized that I have an other heater core in the 1gb that 2LiterRiceEater gave me ! WooooooT WooooooooT :D

Will update this thread after work when I'll try to unclogged the heater core. :)

Thanks a lot guys for your help ! I'm in a rush these day trying to get my truck back on the road after an electrical fire last winter so messing with the 1gen wasn't in the planning ...

Now coolant pass in the heater core, and yeah it was really clogged !!! WOOOOOOOOOT it didn't explode in the dash under pressure !

Now it's time to refill that bi**ch, bleed it than chek for heat ! :D

I now got heat and it's hot as hell !!!

Thanks everyone for your help and comment, I really appreciate it ! That's what makes me want to stay in the DSM game, always good friends to give you a hand at any hour !

Glad to hear everything worked out for ya... gotta love it when that happens!
