Chain Clicking Sound

Hi,
My name is Darcy and I have a red 92 talon tsi awd. Very recently there has been a chain like clicking sound from beneath my car when I let off the gas in 3rd or 4th gear around 50-60 Kilometers per hour. I checked my summer tires and they are all on directionally, the heat shield from the exhaust are all tight and nothing else seems to be out of place. Any ideas on whar it could be?

Maybe a bad axle (cv joint).

Have the transfer case inspected.

Thanks for the great feed back....The front CV's were just replaced in January, but I will have to get the back ones checked. Are transfer case issues common on these cars?

would the fluid level in the transfer case make this sound? How do you check the fluid in the transfer case?

the transfer cases had a recall on them for the seals leaking. do you know if yours had the recal service done? Its possible all the fluid leaked out of the t-case and is now making that sound due to now fluid in the case. call up your local mitsu dealer, tell them your vin number, and they should be able to tell you if it had the recall done.

BTW, if someone has not had there t-case recall done, will mitsu still do the work considering some of the cars are 15 years old?

Thanks..I think I am nearing the solution to the problem because I have a few leaks I am fairly sure that on a recall there is no end date as to when the dealership will fix.

Good call defiant, yeah it might be the transfer case on its way out, or even the universal joints in the drive shaft, or the carrier bearings in the drive shaft. If your not good with drivetrain noises you might want to go to a trusted mechanic or take it to a dealer to see if the recall has been done yet, they can check the rest of the drivetrain over at the same time. And no there is no date that ends the company's liability for a recall (or milage).
