2G CF hood newb question

My 96 came with a CF hood that was already pinned. Is it possible to repair the latch area after its completely destroyed?

Depends on how bad is destroyed ...any pics would be helpful, but most likely when carbon fiber is ruined it looks sh*tty when repaired ..unless you dont mind having it painted ( Something I did to mine to cover up repairs) I had a graphic laid so when we peeled the graphic it looked like the graphic was CF under laid on the hood ...I thought it was cool

More than likely it willnever look the way it used to but you can try fiberglassing and repairing the section and paint the whole hood. That way youll still have the light weight hood

I would do what chiefvest suggested unless the carbon fiber look is what your going for.

just make sure and keep the hood pins. i have lost 2 CF hoods. the first one i lost going 95mph on the interstate. it sucked ass.

I will try to get a picture of it tonight. I am so sorry about the delay, I know it's probably difficult to know what I'm asking without a proper picture.

The hood latch area on the under side of the hood is a giant hole. It must have broken and then they decided to pin it. Once I get a picture posted it will clarify what I'm truly asking.

Depends on the damage. Most of the time you could repair it, but it will not look the same as it did when it was brand new.

Anything can be repaired. Just skin the entire thing with a layer or to of carbon fiber after repairs so it does not look patched. Also while working on it use CF to reinforce areas where hood pins, hinges, and bump stops are.

Photos please so we can assess. How is your experience with composites? I assume not much since you are asking if something can be repaired. Like said above anything can be repaired. It's alot of prep work and if you have an old latch, nuts to lay into the composite material and time it's not too hard. The main repair can be done in fiberglass with a top coat of carbon material however your repair will be obvious as you're not going to be able to get the weaves to match up.

Pinning those things is about the only SAFE way to run one. I would never trust the fiberglass latch they are made with...too sketchy.

I agree that pins are the best insurance to can pick up... For under 20 bucks.

The latch is just one added insurance measure for that one time you forget the pins and drive away IMO

Pics would help.. When my carbon hood flew open at 90 it destroyed my windshield, became mishapen & broke at the hinges.
