Alright guys so here's the story. The car is a 97 GSX with an Evo 3 16g at 19psi , 272 cams and all the supporting mods. The clutch is slipping very bad so in a couple of weeks, off she goes to get fixed. While the Trans is out, I'm having the shop take a look at the Trans to see if anything looks out of line and do any potential upgrades while I'm there. What should I do with the center diff? Will it hold or should I dish out money for a 4 spider. My end power goals on the car are only around 350whp. The car will see maybe one drag race event a year with me driving the car 150 miles a week to work. Any thoughts on what route I should take?

If the condition of the cross-shaft and the pinion gearset are in good shape, and the housing does not have galling or wear damage where the thrust washers sit for the spider gears, then just install new lower pinion oiling washer, new spider gear washers, and get the center diff cover machined (if in good shape and not damaged from a worn out upper pinion washer), or if the cover is damaged, you will likely need a new pinion gearset and cover, and at a minimum machine the cover for the torrington bearing and thrust washer. If the cross-shaft is galled, then it probably galled the spider gear bores.

For the power levels, the 4-spider isn't necessary, but it will simply come down to the condition of all the parts to see what is warranted for repairs or modification or upgrading.

The master has spoken haha. But like you said, it will have to be torn down and inspected first, then a decision can be made. Any other popular bearing upgrades or oil upgrades that will be beneficial I should know about?

I have a 2 spider with a welded vcu on my car right now. It's lived through 3 transfercases, yoke, 2 axles, a ring and pinion, and a carrier. They hold up much better than anyone would ever dream. I think that a 4 spider is a waste. They would be a real improvement if they were made to use needle roller bearings on the cross shaft and in place of the thrust washer.
