Cel P1600

Okay well i have a 97 gst with a auto trans. I got a cel the other day, so I went to autozone to get the code pulled. They came up with this:

P1600 serial communication link malfunction with tcm.

Does anyone know what should I check? Or does anyone else have this problem?

Make sure the transaxel control module harness and connectors are ok.
Oh and no bumping is allowed or you will be ignored and next time probably banned (we have far too many posts to put up with it).

Ok sorry about that... Yeah i have checked and they look fine. Is there any way i could go by, to check the wires other than visually?

is the car running fine ???? did they clear the code ? and if they did , did it come back on ?

Yeah the car seems to be running fine, the CEL has been on since i got the car with the same code. I've cleared it a couple of times and it still comes back.

Check to see if you have the original trans/ or trans control module in the car.

The pcm might be looking for a different trans or module than the one that is installed in the car.

Just a starting point.

Or make it easy on yourself and save up for a m/t conversion!

Could it be a bad ground?

Could be. TCM harness side connector pins 13 and 26 on the 26 pin connector (pins numbered 1-26) should go to ground. Pin 45 on the 16 pin connector (pins numbered 31-46) should go to ground.

Ok so everything checked out ok the ground was ok but i still cleaned it up a bit, a little rust on the plate the wiring harness was fine when i went through the pin voltage testing. but when i pulled the TCM and cracked it open to take a peak it smelled burnt, and looked as if something was leaking.

I went to my local dealership and found out, for a brand new TCM it's gonna be around $625
