CE Code P1600

I have a 98 Talon TSi AWD 5spd and it is throwing a P1600. My smog tech buddy says it is a serial communication error between the ECU and the auto transmission controller, but I have a manual. Anyone else get this error code?

I just bought the car, haven't had any other issues with it, and just trying to get my CE to go away. Any way to tell an auto ecu from a manual ecu?

I searched the forums and someone had the error code a while back but no one responded to his post. He had an auto car though...

Your tech buddy is correct. Your car probably was converted to a manual.

The manual ECU is supposed to have a harness that grounds ECU pin 91. The auto ECU's harness connects pin 91 to the starter relay power. Not sure if this is your problem but it may be. Let us know what you find.
