I just installed a 2g MAF in my 1g and my check engine light has come on. I followed the vfaq when wiring it up. The 2g plug that came with the maf I bought didn't have the same colors as the vfaq stated, so I wired it according to number. I'm getting a CEL though, anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

You shouldn't be doing this without a datalogger, so I would suggest getting one and you'll be able to check the code.

Most likely you wired it incorrectly, but there is a chance it's a faulty unit.

No, I shouldn't be doing this with a datalogger without batteries. I've got a datalogger, but I couldn't find any batteries for it at the time, I was basically just wondering if the 2g Maf will trigger a CEL even if it's wired up correctly. I will be getting the code though soon, as I found some batteries.

Allright, I just logged the car and got code #12. Which is "Volume air flow sensor". I'm pretty sure that it is wired correctly, I followed the vfaq and I got good connections. What do you think?

2g Plug-----------to---------1g Plug
1 - Green/Yellow--------------4 - Green/Red
2 - Pink----------------------7 - Green/Yellow
3 - White/Black---------------2 - Green/Blue
4 - Black/Red-----------------3 - Red
5 - Black---------------------6 - Green/Black
6 - Red/Blue------------------8 - Green/Orange
7 - Green/White--------------1 - Green/White

That's how it's wired. Thanks alot.

I'm trying to figure this out and I still can't. The plug that plugs into the 2g maf side isn't like one I've seen before. The colors don't match up with any of the colors on the charts on the vfaq, it's close to the "mystery plug" but still a little different. The guy that I bought the 2g maf from said that it was working and he tested it before it got shipped out. Here is a pic. of the plug I have.

Now, has anybody seen this plug before and is it possible it came off another car other than a 2g? Also, anyway to check if the maf is good or not?

Im pretty sure its an ignitor plug from a 1g. Thats what i used on my 2g mas install. I cant say for sure because I dont remember what the plug looked like off hand. I can check today and let you know for sure if thats what that is. Heres the directions from vfaq on how to use the plug.

"FYI: you don't have to track down a 2G MAF plug.
The ignitor plug on 91-up (or 92-up?) DSMs is the same configuration, though you'll need to pull one of the wires and move it so that it matches up with the MAF. To swap the wire:

Depress the tabs on the one end of the tan wire retainer and push/pull it out of the plug
Grab the orange silicone plug in position 5 and pull it out
Shine a flashlight in the back of the plug, you will see a tab holding the number 8 terminal in the plug
Stick a pin/needle in there and depress the tab and the wire pulls out easily. Do not just yank on the wire!
Place that wire in position 5, place the orange silicone plug in position 8, and replace the tan wire retainer in the plug
The ignitor is also known as the Power Transistor, it is the small black box bolted to the intake manifold near/under the coils."

Thanks alot. Now we're getting somewhere. I checked my plug and if it is, it looks like this has already been done since there is a wire in spot #5 but not wire in spot #8. Also, I pulled my ignitor plug in my 1g and it looks exactly like the one in the picture on vfaq, same colors and everything. Now it makes me think this isn't the ignitor plug, if it is though, it appears to have already had the wire swapped.

One other thing, how can I be sure if this is a 2g maf or 3000GT/Stealth maf or not?
