+1 on the CAS
If it has separated like that there is no telling what has gotten into it and contaminated the internals... eg... water, oil, dirt... all of which can do a lot of damage to electronic pieces such as this. This is also what is probably causing the rough running condition. Make sure when you replace it to set the timing correctly using the jump terminal on the firewall.

CAS? Damn. Sounds bad. Should I continue running my car this way? Or stop it until I get this fixed?

Oh and I have no idea how it got like this... I just opened my hood today, and noticed it was loose.

That bolt thats holding it should not have fell out. Those bolts have lock tight tread lockers. Just put the cover back and put a bolt on there. that should still be okay.

The bolt is still there... Will tightening it back again be safe? I dont want to cause any further damage.

Whats the worse that can happen with no CAS?

Yes, just tighten them or if you have lock tite put some.
The car will not start if you dont have a CAS.

if the bolt is still there, they why did it became like that???

I noticed it was loose... So I turned it to see what it was... But the bolt is still there... Its not completely loose. I will tighten the bolt 2morow morning. Could this maybe be the cause of the laggy starts sometimes? Sometimes it starts easily, and other times it takes a while to start.

NOTE:You can still see one of the bolts in the picture BTW

Even though my car is 1991, the engine it has is a 1990. So I have to get a 1990 CAS?

By the way, no money to swap it out now. I'm going to tighten the bolt back up, and run the car like that... Until I can swap it out... Does that sound good?

Would it be safe to run the car ike this? Even though the sensor might have gotten a bit dirty?

If the CAS does not work, the car shouldnt start right? So if it starts, it means the CAS is still working?

Well the Engine head, and BLOCK are from a 90. The rest of the car is from a 1991... The only parts that were swapped from the 1990 to the 1991 were the NECESARY PARTS.

Anyway, I tightened up the CAS, and the car is running fine. Is it safe to run the car with the CAS like this? Its on my list of things to change eventually, but I honestly have no money for that right now. Is it safe? or should I stop the car?

BLow it out with some compressed air, then tighten it back on (the lid part) You may even want to use some new screws with some blue loc-tite (medium strength), then you might even go so far as to seal the edges with a light coat of silicone after it's abck together just ot keep water out.

Just carefully clean it before putting it back together and it should be fine... but don't drive the car with it hanging open like that or you will find yourself stranded before too much longer...that's ALMOST as bad as running without a timing cover except it can't destroy your head/valves. It will jsut leave you stranded at some point

the one you have in the picture is for 91-94. the 90 has a long pigtail connector and plugs in by the firewall, instead of the plug right on the sensor from a harness coming from the tb area in your engine harness. i have a spare of both for sale cheap if you want it.
