Hey guys....i have a 97 GS-T and when im driving from 70 MPH and higher, the car starts to shake or vibrate A LOT!! now the front tires need to be changed but the rears and still brand new....i was wondering what this shaking and vibrating could be?? please help!! i was also wondering that if i were to rotate the tires, have the alignment done and have the wheels balanced if that would help at all.....thanks

My car did the exact same and my tires were just off balance. Start there and get them aligned and see if that helps.

First change your worn tires, then make sure they (all 4 tires) are all properly balanced. A little goes a long way when it comes to that little weight. :D Then I would say go from there. Every case I have ever had with this, it was just the wheels being unbalanced. :thumb:
(Well, except when I was in high school and ran my tires to the threads.) :nono:

I would take my car to a trusted tire shop and have them replace the two bad tires and make sure all 4 rims/tires are balanced. Also you may want to look into the lower A arm ball joint recall. My car would vibrate terribly from 60+ and around turns, then I took it in for the recall and all is well. (They replaced both in the front and asked me how I'd been driving the car without bruising....yea it was bad!)

Since this thread is up about shaking/ vibration might as well ask for some help on my concern ive been having lately..

The other day I started my car up and after warming gave it a little gas while in neutral without the clutch being pressed down and the tranny started shaking and vibrating the whole dash. Now I dont have balance shafts, and I know I need new motormounts, but it did it pretty harshly. ( And yes ive confirmed it being the tranny shaking and not the motor as I placed my hand on the tranny and revved it from under the hood. )
Also I had just installed a new master cylinder and adjusted my clutch linkage because I had serious pedal play the night before and almost wondered was it relevant to that?

I cut off the car went under the hood and noticed one of the tranny bolts was half hanging out? Weird? I tightened it back down all the way ( and by the way I am still missing one bolt on the top front side of the tranny. ) and then started and revved it again and it still vibrated but got less as I started driving it, driveable- it changes by rpm and tends to vibrate more in the lower rpms it is stil a little rough... Possibly that missing screw,
Any ideas?

fixed my shaking by getting different motor mounts at the junkyard and putting windo welld in it. And just from doing the back motor mount i noticed much less vibration and less wheel hop.

But then now I have a new problem, after a good 1st gear pull and then suddenly from the tranny I heard this horrible metal on metal grinding noise and I couldnt shift in any gears and I turned it off and then it wouldnt let me turn it back on. Sounded like starting a car already on yet the cam/ gears or timing belt never roated at all.
One person told me it could my starter grindined up and defective, and someone else mentioned my throw out bearing? When the clutch is depressed there is sparks coming from under the car ( flywheel area )
It was towed and parked and going to have to drop the tranny or something tomorow.
Im wondering is the starter even a possibility, like could it be binding the flywheel some how or something?
But then why would there be a lot of sparks? ANy ideas.
