Hey I have a 1996 GST eclipse, I live in California so I was wondering if anyone knew some companies that make CARB legal downpipes and Cold Air Intakes. I was looking at the Injen cold air intake, do you know if that is CARB exempt?

-Thanks

no mods are CARB legal from out parts but i passed smog with all the mods in my profile. Oh yea one more thing there is no CAI for turbo DSM. It is a waste of time to get any fresh air because once the goes into the turbo it heats up instantly, that is why we have intercooler to cool down the air AFTER it goes through the turbo:dsm:

hey

Thanks for your help I see what you mean about the intake thing and the turbo getting it hot really quick again. I never thought about that. But I can still get horsepower but puttin on the injen adapter that hooks up from the turbo to the MAF/Intake correct? I'll probably just do that. ...
I'm planning on doing

-The Hahn Racecraft Super 16g upgrade
-Apexi Boost Timer
-Hahn Downpipe
-Apexi N1 Catback
-Injen (adapter from turbo to intake)
-B&M short throw
-HKS BOV
-And some kind of clutch upgrade

I think in California that I might have to have a "Carb Exemption" paper saying that its ok to put on my car. But then again I just moved here and maybe I just have to pass the emmissions test like you said. ....
Thanks for your help again

Yeah, looks good. The clutch you will want to get is ACT 2100. Excellent clutch and most of the members here have that or the 2600 (gsx clutch). But, uh, no boost controller?

Yeah, sorry by Boost Timer I ment boost controller, I was debating on what controller to get. I know the digital ones are like $600 or the manual ones are like $100 bucks. But I heard that the manual boost controller have really bad boost spikes. Which is no good. I ran my car once at the strip and got a 14.89, I took the spare out and ran on a 1/4 tank of gas. I'm basically just wanting to run mid 13's I hope with those mods I'll be able to break the 13.5's. Thanks for the suggestion on the clutch too. What boost controller would you recommend?

I don't believe you need CARB certified parts for exhaust. If you did, Midas and every other muffler shop wouldn't be in business. I don't see why piping would need to be certified. As long as you still have a cat and are under 95 dB you should be fine. I passed smog recently with a full 3" turboback.

How will they know it's adjustable with no emblem? (I took the sticker off my Greddy and am planning to paint it black.)

Back on topic, I wouldn't get a hard intake pipe until you for sure get your turbo upgrade. No offense to the big16g crowd, but if you're planning on a turbo upgrade why not go 20G/50trim? It will help with smog issues as you most likely won't be spooling when you're on the Smog dyno, and you can get some insane numbers.

Don't get the Apex'i AVC-R Boost controller, it's a serious waste of money (and from what I hear a bi*** to work with), a Greddy Profec B Spec 1 (the one with the knobs not the digital one) is my choice of EBC, works good and is easy to work with.

Also beware of the HKS SSQ BOV, it doesn't recirculate without a special kit, and unless you plan on running a MAF-T setup, it's highly unadvised that you don't vent to the atmosphere. Now I know the ricer inside of you is saying, "But I want to vent! I want to challenge the TT Supras that are worth more than my life!" Don't give into that ricer, and get yourself a Recirculating BOV. Greddy Type S or one of the Turbo XS models (Type H I think?) are two excellent choices, I like the Greddy Type S and it fits nicely with the stock Recirculating tube. Even then if you want to be cheap you can get a 1G BOV, very cheap, very effectice and not made of plastic.

Also, you're not going to get much of a gain with an intake pipe on the t-2-slow, just get an open element filter and you'll be fine.

Um I'm done now.

Hey thanks for your help guys, geez BOV's are illegal here? Wow. OMG Anyways I'm probably just going to do the Super 16g upgrade, I want to keep my car running and I think with a Super 20g I might be pushing the life of my car down the drain. Still might consider it, I hear they produce some great power numbers like you said. Anyways thanks for all your help.

Ps.
:dsm: No honda has come close to my stock car :dsm:

Jebus,

All you have to do is look at the BOV, to tell whether it's adjustable or not. Most places don't care, but some are nazi's about that kind of stuff.
