hey so i ran over a something on the freeway the other night driving and now my check engine light is comming on so i turned my car on and listend to it and i can hear what i think is an exhaust leak posibly a hole in the piping or maybe i smaked the cat converter so i was thinking it might be a good oportunity to get a cat back exhaust but i live in california where moding a car is more difficult ### of smog laws does anyone know if any companys make a carb exempt cat back like aem does with intakes and stuff or does it even matter for emisions? will it still smog etc?

From my experiences, a cat back is not illegal. As long as you stay below 95 decibles then your fine. Being a non turbo that is difficult. Double check to make sure that your o2 sensor didnt get ripped out. There is also a ground wire on the exhuast, make sure that also didnt get ripped out.

You could also go to your local autozone and have them read the codes for you too.

Authentic brand name is the way to go. GReddy for example, and many other top brand companies, put thousands of dollars into testing and approval for passing SMOG and emissions. That's one of the benefits to dishing out the extra cash for authentic components.

You will be fine to pass emissions. Just dont have a straight pipe where the CAT should be... :shhh: Even then, you can get it changed.

? what do you mean get it changed? w/o a cat you can do a resistor mod to fool your own ECU, but a tailpipe emissions test cannot be passed without a cat.

ima go to my mechanic and put it on a lift i cant really see anything but thanks for the advice guys im also gunna go to auto zone and have them do the diognostic im thinking it was the o2 sensor i appreciate all the comments im new to the site you guys rock

P E R I O D S .

If you don't dick with the catclysmic diverter, the State only cares about how loud things are. Any muffler shop can fix you up with whatever kind of bleating, hit-by-a-car-kid-goat sound you want the car to make.

if it is your 02 sensor just buy a new one from here: get the denso brand. much cheaper and better than auto zone.
