This is my first post on DSMTuners , I have researched for hours and can't figure this out and my dad is a mechanic and he is stumped too.

I just purchased a 91 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD M/T last summer in a barely running state, when i picked it up it didn't start at first but a couple minutes later it started right up. I drove it home 50 miles away no problem and the next day it once again wouldn't crank.

The Talon will only start if you hear the injectors cycle when you turn the key on(which doesn't happen often). sometimes after you try and crank it you will hear a ticking sound coming from somewhere near the injectors or around the fuel rail or even around the intake maybe? Anyway, we figured out if you pull the MPI relay fuse on the positive battery terminal and replace it a couple times it will make the injectors cycle and will crank. Well i did that for a day and it ran decent but yesterday i went out to crank the car like that and nothing happened, no ticking, no injectors, nothing.

I pulled my ECU and put it in my buddies 91 Galant VR-4 and it cranked right up, so i'm pretty sure that's good, today we just replaced the PTM and coil pack and in doing so, the car cranked up pretty much first try but after we shut it off it never cranked back up again and it never cycled the injectors again. The MPI relay next to the ECU clicks and lets the fuel pump run like it's supposed to, I have swapped it out with another that came with the car and the other one just makes the fuel pump run non-stop when you turn on the key.

I put swapped out the Fuel pump with a Walbro 255hp but know that's not the problem cause it was doing this before i swapped it, i replaced the fuel filter and checked the Injector harness with a noid light ( they all flashed properly) the fuel rail is an AEM and the injectors are supposedly new (says the previous owner).

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I still believe its the computer.

Because you are saying there is not pulse in the injectors....but i could be wrong.

it could be a faulty wire in your harness....

Just to be safe, check the computer that it does not smell burned, and even if does not. you might
want to open it, test circuit and check for any burn spots.

-check if your CEL turns on when you open the key Then off

If you can borrow another computer from a running 1g
and keep it for a while....

so you can test with a working

-cam angle sensor
-power transistor

make sure you have spark.

and if none of that works there has to be some a faulty wire, so you would have to check for
continuity.....and i would be able to find you a post on how to check that if you need.

Make sure all your grounds are clean and have no corrosion on them. Also check the quality of the wires in the starting circuit.
On a side note, I bought a dsm not to long ago, and it wouldn't start because the battery terminals were caked with corrosion. I cleaned them up with a battery terminal/post cleaner, cleaned all the dirt off the battery, and now it turns on with no problems.

*Update*
Today i took the terminals off the battery for a while and reconnected them and the car will crank right up, i think it has to do with the ECU resetting. Also the car is running on just 2 or 3 cylinders but that isn't a new development, when the car is at part throttle it will heavily sputter and have no power at all. Could this be due to the fact i have a walbro 255hp without an AFPR? I believe it was doing the sputter thing before i put in the walbro, but not positive.

Oh and my CEL does come on when i turn the key on and when the vehicle is running the CEL stays on.

Having a 255 fuel pump without an AFPR wont make the car do as your describing, I had just the pump in my car for a long time and never had any problems but bad gas milage and probably running extremely rich. Have you bought new plugs and wires for the car?

Supposedly the guy I bought it from just put in new plugs and wires, he had the extra plugs too, so I'm pretty sure he really did it

Do u have any thing like dsm link or a safc because they might be shorting out and check the wires around your computer maybe that there corroded

I do have a safc II that the previous owner wired himself, maybe he messed something up. We'll pull that out today and return it to stock and see if that fixes anything.
