My car won't start unless I unplug the Cam Angle Sensor. After replacing the timing belt I realized that the CAS had a damaged wire so I had to remove the new belt again to replace the old broken sensor...FML. The CAS has since been replaced with a new sensor but the car still won't start. I can crank on it all day long but the injectors don't seem to pulse. As soon as I unplug the CAS it will fire right up, but only for a few seconds and only on two cylinders. The only other things that have changed since the last time the car ran properly was the addition of t4 mani and a C.O.P. ignition setup. I'm gonna try putting the old ignition setup back on the car to see if it will run properly. Is there anything else that would cause the car not to start with the CAS plugged in?

You car has a swap in it right? When you did the belt did you un-hook your battery?

If you did then check DSMLink to make sure you invert CAS. The 2G ECU's don't hold memory like the 1G Link does. You can load your maps, but you still have to check EDIT, OPTIONS for the invert CAS.

If this is a 7 bolt, then your talking about a crank angle sensor on the crank sprocket? If so you should check to make sure the trigger plate on the sprocet isn't bent. If you have another sensor try it in order to eliminate the problem.

Then if you messed with plug wires at all, check them again to make sure they are reversed. (if it's a swap)

If you got a hacked wire, check it and make sure you ok there as well. I think you got the right idea checking your ingnition system first though...

a car should not start w/o the cas plugged in... are you sure you're not possibly having another cas plugged in on a hacked wiring harness or something?

It can & will fire up with out the CAS plugged in, especially if you have DSMlink. I would turn to the Gurus on this one. Only because I do recall reading thru something that possibly said bypassing the CAS with DSMlink? Correct if I'm wrong, I'd rather know than not know.

It's a 7 bolt 4g64 (2.4) motor with a 95 2g head & stock 95-96 CAS. The trigger plate on the sprocket is not bent. I am using dsmlink 2.5x. Tried the invert CAS option (even though I shouldn't be using it) but it still won't start unless I unplug the CAS.

Did you reset the ECU? Or at least when you get it started, let it run for at least 10 mins? Unplug the CAS while the car is on & see what it does.

Has the CAS been moved at all for any reason? Are the 2 12mm bolts that hold it to the head loose at all?

I still have to say if you put a new ingnition system on there and it hasn't run since then that's your problem. I'm not familiar with that system so look over the instructions again carefully in case you missed something regarding the setup.

Also, make sure your maps on Link are what they're suppose to be, could be as simple as a wire unplugged or a map off.

Lol. The car is not magic, it's not going to do something different by unplugging it while it's running... remember he said it runs on 2 cylinders w/ it unplugged but doesn't run at all w/ it plugged in. How is he going to "unplug it while it's running" if he cannot get it to run plugged in? Your shooting in the dark advice isn't too helpful I'd say.

Nevermind.. I got it working. It stated right up and idled fine after I removed the COP and plugged the factory coil packs/wires back in. Only two of the coils on this COP kit seem to be functioning. I guess this is what I get for buying an ebay C.O.P. Thanks for trying to help for those of you who were being constructive.

Ha, ha I pretty much figured it was that darn coil pack. Good to hear it's running ok, now go get yourself a 6 bolt. :)
