Car wont start because of head gasket??

im looking in to buying a 90 gst. the car is in good shape with new paint and such but it wont start. the owner said the head gasket and the waterpump need to be replaced. would that not make the car start? im new to dsm's and was just wondering if there are other possibilities. there also may be a fracture on the head itself. would it be hard to fix? please give me some help.

the car should start, even with a blown headgasket. Unless the gasket is completetly destroyed, which is unlikely. (unless he really cranked up the boost). I would look into the condition of the timing belt to make sure no internals where damaged. Does it turn over?
If I were you I would VERY CAREFULLY inspect the body, and give him an offer on what the body is worth. consider the engine gone, even if it isn't. (which you don't really know.)

alright, the car wants to start but it just doesnt catch. also the body is mint. i checked it out the otehr day. hes askin 1500 for it so i think its a good deal but if theres more then the gasket n waterpump, im not too sure.

you can replace the water pump and head gasket for $200. i got my 92 gs in good condition for 1800 and i ended up having to rebuild the head and the rings cuz it was burning oil. now it runs great. and i had the same prob as you where the car would want to start but it wouldnt right after i rebuilt it. but i ended up puttin it in 1st and it fired right up. i duno if that will help you but i was stumped and stuck in a burger king parking lot and my car wouldnt start for like 20 minutes. then i was like... hmm try it in 1st. and it fired up.
