car wont shift

i was getting on the freeway and went to shift in to 4th and went in to second and then it wouldnt go in to other gears i can shove in to 5th and 3rd but its super hard and when i was idling it made a weird noise . when the car is off it shifts fine help!!!

check for total mutilation of the engine mounts, shift linkange mounts on the trans, or the shifter linkage in the console. Last year my car was doin some wierd shit on the highway. You merge, speed up, then try down-shifting to fourth to do some passing, the stick wouldn't move at all. Like it was welded to it's mounts. Then it was OK. Only ever happened once after that, and never since (knock on wood). If it isn't the mounts or linkage, it's inside the trans.
