Okay guys, i'm new to the whole DSM thing so bare with me. I got a 95 Eclipse GS n/t 5 speed. so far i have replaced timing belt, water pump, hydraulic tensionary, pulleys, plugs, fuel and air filter. THe whole car is stock. The problem is is that the car won't rev above 3500 rpm in neutral or in any other gears. I have been reading and reading and cannot find anything. It will not go above 3500 unless you downshift otherwise. I have heard of possible MAP sensor, TPS sensor, and plug wires if you guys can direct me into a direction i would highly appreciate it because i do not just want to throw parts on it and that not be the problem. Thank you in advance.

Alright, so what happens when it hits 3500 rpm?? Bog, stutter, or just die??

And yes CEL is - check engine light, as to being cleared you would have to hook up an OBDII scanner to find out.

ok when im in neutral i rev it up to 3500 it will keep at 3500 even if i left off the gas. i have to shut off the key in order to get it to quit. on the other hand, when im driving and hit 3500 it wont bog or die it will just keep at 3500 or around there. other than that the motor runs fine.

Man that is nuts haha! But did it do this before you did timing belt change and what not? You can re-check timing, fuel pressure, and maybe do a compression test??

yes it did actually i bought the car from a friendand this is the car i learned todrive a stick in and it did this before he sold it to me because the tensioner failed. so i replaced everything and the valves arent screwed up or anything. ran a compression test and it was good and consistent through all 4 cylinders. but this happened before my friend bought it so idk when it started doing this exactly.

i unplugged MAP and TPS sensor thinking that maybe those would fix the problem and the car ran worse. Thought it was TPS because the car feels like it hits a rev limiter. ANyone please help any direction would help. could this be possible bad ecu? i am hooking a scan tool too it tomorrow to check for old trouble codes. once again anyy help it appreciated.!

ok i hooked a scan tool to it. it had a trouble cod po123, or tps high voltage. i tried testing the resistance of it and i got nothing on mmy multimeter. should i hook a multimeter up to it and read the voltage of the 5 volt feed. and the other wire besides ground and cycle the throttle slowly. pleaswe help. would like to make sure before i buy a new sensor
