Car will not turn over

This is my first post on this forum. Ive owned my 97 TSI AWD for a little over a year now and haven't had too many problems with it, but recently the car just started to shit out on me. My car threw a code for a downstream o2 and a coolant temp sensor. I changed the coolant temp sensor before the o2 and drove it around for about a week. I immediately noticed that my idle climbed from the typical 800 rpms to 1200 rpms when still or 1500 rpms when rolling and also that the car started up a little slower. It was very odd, but i thought nothing much of it. Then after changing my o2, which was an aftermarket Bosch and even though I've heard the horror stories of using aftermarket sensors i did anyway, i noticed that my car was spitting fuel out of my exhaust. The car was running rich before i changed it so i figured the ECU has to just adjust to the knew sensor. I drove it around for a bit and the CEL was off and the car was running fine (except for the weird idle) so i decided to pull 2nd gear. When i hit 6k my car felt as if i slammed onto my clutch and sort of jerked forward even through i didn't. Then it started to idle at 200 rpms and i couldn't leave first gear or go over 10 mph. I knew my car was in limp mode as of then so i just had my friends follow me home with their hazards since i wasn't to far from my house. I completely burnt out my cat and my exhaust was flaming red. The next day i tried starting it and it would start, climb to 2k rpms, then shut off. Its been about a week and now the car won't even turn over when i try to start it. Literally no idea what it could be. If anyone has any idea id really appreciate it. Sorry for writing so much

Well first check the compression could be a locked up engine.

if it doesnt turn over check to see if there is power at the starter and if it is working correctly.

The starter clicks likes it going to turn over, but it just never does so i don't think the starter is the issue. Thanks for the help though man

Test the starter, crank it by hand it should turn over if not youve got bigger issues than the starter.

If it is not spinning the flywheel it IS the problem. That or you have something holding the flywheel from spinning like a backed out bolt.

Test the starter, crank it by hand it should turn over if not youve got bigger issues than the starter.

Hey guys its me again. So i finally got my car to start and its running beautifully. I unplugged the coolant temp sensor and it started right up and idled correctly. after letting it warm up i took it for a drive around my block to see how it was working. The car moves in every gear, then only problem i had that worried me was that while i was driving there would sometimes be a grinding noise and my car would slightly hesitate like it was misfiring. Then one time in third gear it made the grinding noise and then my car completely stalled out. It immediately started back up and ran fine, but im not too sure what it could be, maybe my transfer case? any suggestions? i appreciate the help guys

This might sound dumb, but reach for the starter see if it's even on right? Check for any play at all.
