So it recently snowed here and i was driving around in it to go to my buddies house which is around 20 miles from my place. The snow got pretty deep so it was flying over the hood. It was running fine then when i went to leave this morning it turned over and started like normal then died like 2 seconds after starting. Initially when i tried to start it, the RPMs would bounce and it would just sit there and turn over. I checked my plugs and they were not wet or anything. I checked my MAF and cone filter and that was dry. I also checked the turbo and it was also dry. I notice sometimes when i turn the key right before i go to turn it over there a rapid ticking noise coming from behind the intake manifold but it soon makes a click and stops. I am pretty stumped on what it could be. There is a check engine light when i try to turn it over and the yellow light next to it is also on (i forgot what it meant). The car only has one modification and that is a FMIC with a 2g throttle body elbow. I checked all the cuplers on the piping and theyre all fitted correctly. This car is garaged and was garaged lastnight after i brought it home, the garage is heated so the snow would melt. I need this car fixed by January so i can get to college. Thanks.

Thanks, i guess now its time to wait till people get home and i can get a ride to the shack for that buzzer or find a voltmeter.

Ok I have a theory, i couldnt get a CEL code because the car was just starting and it is usually on at the start then turns off. But that ticking is coming from my Purge Control Solenoid Valve in the upper right when looking from the front of the car into the engine bay. This mitsubishi book i have says when it fails, it is either hard to start or wont start. I am thinking this is the issue. Feed back would be great on this ticking of the Purge Control Solenoid Valve.

How long has it been since you changed your PCS?

I dont think it has ever been changed. The only thing i have replaced on this car myself is the clutch and the Idle Air Control Motor. The PCS is making this rapid ticking when power goes to it so im wondering if that means its gone bad since its never made the noise before all this.

Also while snow plowing did snow get jammed into the intercooler and possibly bust it or shove a hose off it.

Snow did get plowed into the intercooler but i don't know if it broke. I don't think that should matter much since I've had the piping completely come off while driving and it idled fine and turned back on (then found out piping came off). I'm thinking the PCS shorted out because its making that irregular rapid ticking noise. What could have happened is when all the snow melted off it some water got in there.

right on, on getting the car running glad we checked everything before the ECU and it all checked out. Now we have to figure out your idle surging problem! Anyone know what could be causing this? The BIS isnt even working much with the idle

check what i found...

CrackedDsm: I've got bad news for you man. The IAC motors, when they short out, can pop an ECU. My sisters car went through three of them before we figured out what in the hell was the issue. Test your IAC motor, and if you replace the ECU, unplug the IAC motor before you start it. IF you don't, and the thing is shorting out, it'll pop your ECU in a little under one minute.
