I deleted my previous post that I had put in the wrong forum. I apologize to the admins.
Anyway, here is teh deal. I have had my car down for a week or so now due to isntalling teins and poly bushings. Not because I'm lazy or incompetent just people are slow at shipping parts. Anyway, a few days ago I had to pull the car out of the garage to get the racecar in. In doing so I noticed I was getting a dummy reading from my O2 voltage gauge (constand .042). Thinking it was simply a bad connection I decided to go ahead and undo the 'quick connects that had came with the O2 sesnor kit. In doing so the red 12V hot wire grounded. After this the car would run EXTREMELY ruff. It was as though something were cutting fuel/ spark from the engine not allowing it to turn over 4k. FInally it would not start at all.
I did replace the ECU relay that is at the passenger's feet because it was making a loud clicking noise. That did nothing to repair the problem.

In my reading and searching the general conclusion is MFI (I think this is also called teh ASD relay), Cam angle sensor, and crank angle sensor. I want to trouble shoot the MFI relay, but I cannot find the damn thing. If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the space!

when you try starting, wut does it do? does it crank, constantly click, or click once then nothin? i would say, if its crankin, start by checkin for spark, then check for fuel pressure. if it constantly clicks, then u might need a battery. if it clicks once then nothin ur gonna need a starter.

I apologize for not mentioning this sooner: The car will turn over. The battery is fine. I am getting spark though it appears to be weak. I am getting fuel pressure to the fuel rail, I have not been able to make sure the injectors are firing yet. If anyone has a suggestion for that that would be a huge help.

try hookin up a noid light to the electrical plugs connected to the injectors, if it lights up then its getting power. if not, then check for an open somewhere. if that is an aftermarket O2 sensor, then it might be wired wrong. that MFI relay is inside the consol. its on the passenger side, bottom, under the radio, but infront of the computer. u have to remove the computer to get to it.

I am going to autozone right now to pick up a noid light. However, I held my hand on the injector when I cranked the ignition and felt nothing. Also, I went ahead and removed the ECU to try to find the MFI relay. I am STILL unable to locate it. According to the diagram from the service manual it should be a four wire relay, right? It is not the same thing as the ECU relay, or is it? I just replaced the ECU relay. What does the MFI relay physically look like? Thanks for all your help!

Connected the noid light to the injector plug and got nothing. I am also now positive that I am getting fuel to the fuel rail. Where does this put me in the trouble shooting process? Im guessing the only three things left that it could be are the MFI relay, and CASs. Is this correct?

I have looked for the MFI relay where was suggested but I cannot find it. I pulled the ECU to try to find the MFI relay put I could not see it. If anyone could provide me with a picture of the MFI relay (preferably an in car pic) I would throw a few bones in their paypal account.

hey i've been thinkin about this, u said u replaced the ECU relay right? the ECU relay and the MFI relay are the same thing i believe. i dont know why i didnt think of that sooner. wtf.LOL. as it stands i got it as, u have spark, the engine cranks, and u have fuel and fuel pressure to the fuel rail, but u DO NOT have any fuel injector pulse. the only thing i can think of as this being would be a bad ignition module. there is a specific procedure for testing it. it would be in a service manual for the car. i think they would even have them down at the public library, they got everything there, LOL. try it and let me know how it goes. good luck. :thumb:

That would make sense (the MFI and ECU relay being one in the same). I have been trying to find the trouble shooting procedure in the DSM cd, and cannot seem to run across it in there. Odes the ignition relay control fuel deliery? Is it possible that it would still allow the ignition to fire?

not positive. you can try it but im not sure it would work. however, i would think about getting a price for an ignition module though.

Well, I have much larger problems now. I was trying to some diagnostic work to detrmine if I was getting spark... And I had forgotten about disconnecting the return line from the fuel rail. End result was the car catching fire. Fortunately all that APPEARS to be burnt is one of the clips and harness that is connected to the injector. What injector clips are compatible with our cars? Thanks for all your help man!

i believe that almost all mitsubishi, hatachi, and nipidenso injectors for mitsubishi engines will fit. no prob for the help man. im jus here so that other dsm tuners will have an easier time with their cars than i did when i started out. LOL, good luck man.
