so i was on the way home from the gas station, car was running good, then all of a sudden the car just jumped and quit. it still ran i think barely for a few secs but when i gave it gas, nothing happend at all. i was thinking i was going to spin a bearing so maybe thats it? it didnt overheat or nothing. not too long before this happend, my oil psi slowly dropped like it usually does but it hasnt done it in a week or so. so, what happend? the car jumped (vibrated, popped, etc.) Please help.

Well Rush, it happend again. Stranded 3 hours from home too. Idk what to do. But it was in the daytime this time. Seen a puff of smoke as it happend. But it was really fast. If you blinked, you would have missed it. Sooooo....now what?

I bet since you put YOUR old CAS back on then its bad. It has to be if its the same problem and that was the cause last time. The only logic is that the CAS is having intermittent failure.

Do you have another to swap onto the car? I remember you stating you swapped one out then when you plugged yours back in it fixed the problem. If it poofed smoke was probably because you lost fire and it was still dumping fuel.

I think DSM Graveyard - Your #1 Source for Used DSM Parts! has a few CAS for like 15 each. The only other thing I can think of if its same symptoms no fuel no fire is bad wiring. But I would say CAS hands down

im posting here. I scanned over that thread 39 times in two days LOL I didnt notice the OP was you. My bad. You shoulda PM'd me. I had a friend w a 1g his battery wasnt tied down and it arcd on the hood. Also the smoke you saw was electralysis. Or a short. I would triple check the connections on the battery both + and - Make sure you have very little resistance on the ground. Then make sure the ends on the + are good and clean and snug. PRobably corrosion. The smaller wires running off the pos post feed the ECU and main fuse box. If you do all that and still nothing pull the ECU again. You could melted it like we were assuming before. You can text me Im running to town I just dropped the 2g about 3" and did some custom wheels. See my avatar :)

Wow rush, if u lived in PA, you would be my best friend LOL. You are so much help you dont even know. Its nice your helping me out like this. Sometime when people try to help me out, idk wtf they are talking about but you, you are very descriptive. I can put pictures in my head as im reading your posts. The terminals on the battery are getting corroded with this hot weather. Just the other day, the car wouldnt start or turn over at all. wiggles the wires on the battery and off i went.

Also, dont know if u read my other post but i pulled the dipstick when i pulled to a stop, the end of the dipstick is bent. My moms bf is really good with cars and he said hes positive its electrical. It rolls over too nicely. Just like last time.

umm it could be the fuel filter because it starts when you have not run it and when you run it tha junk on the filter blok the fuel to the inje you sould have chek that first i know i would have and if the ecu was fried it would not start at all

It is most likely the battery judging by it not starting until you "jiggled and wiggled" the battery cable LOL Try using coke or baking soda. Just make sure it doesnt get into the battery it will kill it :( Also does it have the correct group size battery in it? Like I said my friend bought one that Oreillys had listed as an optional. I think his was NT minus the hump and he installed close the hood and it actually exploded the battery when it arced and pretty much melted the majority of everything electrical. He junked the car :(

On a better not Im sure with your car its just bad corrosion. Do me a huge favor when you get it fixed go get some ENGINE BRIGHT and clean up that bay youd be surprised how cleaning it up makes it easier to locate problems before they get huge!

And on a lighter note I dont mind helping you because your descriptive in your answers and you report back instead of veering off topic. If I dont know Ill tell you I dont blow smoke up your a$$ so im hoping after you clean the posts or replace the cables (PITA but could save you money in the long run if you keep having issues it can begin to damage ECM sensors etc)

Dont give up on the DSM its like 20 years old that makes it a classic doesnt it? And not to knock you but it doesnt look like youve been doing your part on givng her the best attention juding by the pics LOL

As fpr the dipstick being bent can I get a pic? I mean is it twisted or like bent at a 90? I dont think it comes anywhere near the crank. Its possible it through a rod but it should still start regardless. Ive drive one home on 3 cylinders w a hold the size of a softball in the block of a 420a. It was toast but she made it the 4 miles home LOL

The ECU is fine. I carefully ispected it looking for ANYTHING out of the ordinary.

Actually it's not. First thing is it has original caps and they have leaked. The leakage has started corroding several of the surface mount parts as well as the exposed copper on the main ground trace.

This may not be the cause of your problems but it's one of them.
