hey guys, I have a 95 talon TSI that want start until you sit there and try 40 plus times then it will all of the sudden turn over and runs great. while trying it does nothing then it will make a slight buzz and then it usually starts after a few more trys. Any help would be appricated

Well lets start with the basics. Have you tried checking anything at all yet? What kind of maintenance has been done lately? i.e. plugs, wires, etc. etc. How many miles on the car?

Check your plugs, battery, alternator, compression test...

Come back when you do those...

I have a fresh engine with 211 miles on it, so everything is new. I have not tried anything to fix it yet,I wanted to see what you guys might say. When I firtst go to start it, it doesn't crank at all when I turn the key. After many turns, it will make a slight buzzing sound behind the AC controls, then after a few more turns, it will turn over and fire right up.

Also, before I rebuilt the engine, it already had this problem. But now it has gotten worse and has gotten to the point where I feel that it needs to be fixed because it is really starting to hurt my fingers! LOL! Also, it has gotten to where I don't want to drive it, because it has gotten so hard to start. Any help will be appreciated.

I have new plugs, a new battery, the alternator tests fine and I am not sure why would I need to do a compression test?

Test to see if you are getting proper voltage to the starter.

You would have to do a compression test because compression is needed to start a vehicle.

Slight buzzing sound from behind the a/c controls and radio?. I dont know 2g's too well but isn't there a couple fuses/relays behind there, one being fuel? might want to check those out..

Check your starter solinoid. Also check any fuses or relays that may be in that circuit as well. It could be something as simple as a loose connection or ground.

If you have a haynes it tell s you. 2Gs are probably the same but i'll list what mine says(1g). Connect a voltimeter positive lead to the starter motor terminal of the solenoid, and connect the negative lead to the a ground. Crank the engine and take the voltimeter readings as soon as a steady figure is indicated. do not allow the starter motor to turn for more the 10seconds(I hope you haven't been letting it crank 40 times..)A reading of 9volts or more with the starter motor turning at normal cranking speed is normal. If the reading is 9volts or more but the cranking speed is slow the motor is faulty. If the reading is less than 9volts and the cranking speed is slow the solenoid contact are probably burned.

Once it makes a connection when i turn the key, it starts. There is never any just turning over and no start up.

i know i was just listing how to test a startor(you asked). Check your fuses and relays(especialy behind your radio)

I am going to check the starter now for the ground. but what about the relays where do i get those? At the parts store?

Can you clarify what you mean when you say "turning over"? Turning over means cranking to most people. Is it not cranking or is it just not starting?

Oh i know i wasnt trying to sound like a punk or anything i appricate it!:thumb:

When it cranks or turn's over finally it starts right up. It does nothing till it finally turns over.

In your original post, it sounded like you have to crank 40 times for it to start, which would be a fuel, ignition or compression problem. Reading further it sounds more like you have to try 40 time to engage the starter, as soon it cranks it will start, which would make it a electrical problem. If it's the later, I would start by cleaning/sanding the battery terminals and make sure they're tighten down.

twocanewayne, slow down, think it through before you post. This is a tech forum, not a chat room. ;)
