Not a whole lot more to say. Once the car gets started after over 10 seconds of turning it runs great and smooth. Also it is my belief i am losing fuel pressure or something similar, because if the car has jsut been running, it will fire in a few turns. What problems could cause this?

I got that problem too, I bought the car with the clicking like 20 times to get it started then changed out the starter. Then it started with one single click every time, then the starter went out, put in a new one and it starts to do it again  . Well my bro said it might be the starter relay or something but hopefully he'll fix it this weekend.......

I doubt it's your starter relay. But to see if it is, just take it out (I'm not sure exactly where it is on a 2g, but on a 1g you have to take out the part of the dash below the steering wheel and it only takes 4 screws) Then you just run 12v through it (my dad used a battery tester to test the relay and the clutch switch's magnet and used a test light as an easy way to test it.)

My car also takes maybe 2 tries to start sometimes. I haven't replaced the fuel filter yet, though. So, I might want to replace that, and then try again.

there are a lot of things that can cause that. like bad ignition coil, bad CAS, timing might be off a little, starter might be goin out, so on. if i were you i would first check your timing. cause if thats it and you keep try to start your car with bad timing eventually you will bend a valve, and that will suck. dont let it happen to you.

Timing is right at 5 deg BTDC. Thats first thing i checked. I think you're confusing valve timing, with ignition timing. I've seen dsm's that are off a tooth on the timing belt, they run like hell and not for very long. This isnt the case in my situation, once my car finally gets started, it purrs.

for the slow starters - we almost HAVE to do this on my dads jeep, turn the key to on and let the fuel pump run for like 5 seconds then crank the monkey over. otherwise itll spin for 30 seconds without even a putter. try building a little fuel pressure and see if it helps. best of luck

also if the fuel pump is slowing down or getting tired it may take a bit for the pressure to rise. If you do as said above, and turn the key to on and wait for about 10 sec to make sure its pressurized then try to start it. If this solves the problem, then get a new fuel pump. And if you need to get a new fuel pump. Then I would say time to upgrade as well and dont forget to look up on vfaq.com how to re-wire it. :thumb:

I'm wondering if this would apply to me, or if it's possible that the other recommendation (gas cap) is more applicable. With my car, it tries to start the first time, it'll sputter like it's trying to start and then die. Then the next time you try and start it, it'll start just fine. I don't know if I have any of the tools to check things such as fuel pressure, but I doubt that it's be spark, since the car doesn't hesitate or jerk. I did replace the fuel filter with a new Purotator about 50 miles ago, but it didn't seem to make a difference, and my old filter still looked pretty good. Also, the car will start just fine after it's been running, but let it sit overnight and you've got to try twice (like I described above) to get it to start.
