I just got a new Spyder GST today. I go get a battery hook it up, and the car starts by itslef with no key in the ignition. Not good seeming how its been sitting for years and i know the gas is bad and who knows what else. So i pull the PTU to stop it. It tries to start back up 3 times then quits. So i hook everything back up, and it wont start with key. When i turn the key nothing happens, no clicks no nothing. What is going on?????

It has to have a malfunctioning remote start on it. It's the only explanation other than your name and you somehow being a devil worshipper has made a demon posses your car. The alarm part of the remote start is what is keeping the key from starting it.

I'd pull the plastic around the steering column and look by the ignition. The ignition wire is probably spliced somewhere. I think it's the larger yellow wire but it's been awhile. Hope that helps. If not let me know.

A buddy of mine had a similar issue with his Jeep Grand Cherokee. It had a remote start and kept starting itself and wouldn't start with the key. It turned out that it was corroded where the power cable from the remote start connected to the battery and was causing the remote start to malfunction. We replaced it and it was fine.

Hearing that it tries three times and quits tells me its a definite remote start issue. Remove it altogether if you want to totally avoid headaches.

Yeah i dont care for remote start. It is cool but not important. I do not know anything about alarms... I went out today and rehooked the battery up. It didnt try to go into posessed mode. It will still not start though with the key. Ill check the ignition, and power cable wires, if i can figure out which one it is. Maybe i just need an exorcism?

Disconnect the whole alarm and remote start system and hook everything back to stock, sounds like the positive wire from the remote starting system has a short somewhere in the system or could be shorted to your positive cable coming from your batt....do a complete overhaul with the ignition and visual check everything...

The fact that it started 3 times and then quit, tells me that it's got a remote start on it, and that it's probably malfunctioning. A remote start will try three times to start the vehicle if it is unsuccessful in it's first and second attempts. Your starter wire should be black/red...

There are also the ones that start the car if the key chain moves left to right.

or it's the next Transformer...

abandoned car??? did you get it for free?LOL

Close enough to count.

So I followed all the wires everything seems to be good. About 1/30 tries the key will turn the car over. I noticed the little black box that would be directly under my cd player if it had one, is making a buzzing/shorting sounds while i try to turn the key. The box has 6 maybe 7 wires all black red and black/red. I have to assume that this is the reason im having these issues! Any one know exactly what it is and how much?

It also drained a brand new battery over night. Related?

Black box is on the right hand side as you look in the hole? I know the starter relay is mounted under the radio. Coil could be bad in the relay therefore not engaging the contacts. The contacts could have been stuck together when you got the car and the multiple start attempts melted them.

Its the left hand box on the right side! It has a plastic cover around it, mounted next to another and right behind a line of connectors. If it wasnt a blizzard out id go snap a pic!

I am positive the shorting/buzz noise is coming from this box. So this is the starter relay. The remote start button will still start the car, which is what i have been using to drive.
