OK, here is the problem. When I start my car, it won't stay started. The RPM's go up and then just drop and the car dies. If I keep my foot on the throttle and rev it up to like 1K, then shift into gear and go, it will run, but if I come to a stop it will die unless the car is warmed up. If I drive it for like 5-8 min, it will idle fine when I come to a stop, it is just initially. My only guess is that it could have something to do w/ the fuel pump but any advice that can be given I am fully willing to receive. Thx in advance for the help. P.S. I have a horrible case of phantom knock at lower rpms, but I am don't think that has anything to do w/ the idle problem at start. :talon:

Check for intake/boost leaks and clean the ISC motor (bolted to throttle body) valve seat with solvant and Q-Tips.

Also, if your fuel filter is of unknown age/condition.. replace :dsm:

check your IAC (idle air control) motor, i unplugged mine because it burned out and the car did exactly what your saying, does it stall if u don't downshift too?? i mean u can be going at 3000 rpm and u press the cluch and the car tries to recuperate but it doesen't make it.

It's an automatic, so I don't have that problem. I just don't understand why the cars is fine after it warms up. I will take all of your guys' advice. I will try to get to it this weekend. :talon:

Replaced ISC. Changed nothing. Car still does not want to stay started until after it is warmed up. Any other theories? :talon:

Changing the ISC does nothing if the old one had shorted coils and damaged the ECU drivers.
You need to measure the resistance olf the coils in the old one to see if it was bad.

Then after installing a new ISC you need to readjust the BISS according to the FSM and make sure the ISC is working by making sure the car idles up when you turn on the A/C rather than dieing.

Since your problem seems to be with the car dieing while cold you also need to make sure that the Fast Idle Air Valve is still functioning and that it's hasn't been blocked off by some previous owner.

I will do all that you just recommended but when I bought the car it idled fine, problem didn't start until a few months after i had it and it gradually got worse. So I doubt the previous owner did anything to it. Can was bone stock when I bought it and showed no signs of ever having been modded.

Thx for the advice. :talon:
