ok i looked at the other topics but no help ### not the same... sorry. first i have a 1991 eagle talon tsi awd that i bought for 1500 and it has a few mods but im not sure on all of them. well the problem is that the car starts and idles alittle but if you give it gas and try to drive it dies. it started when the guy i bought it from let some idiot over boost it and when he did that it popped off one of the intercooler pipes and died on them well they towed it home and after that the problem started. the guy checked the compression and he said that was fine he checked the valve sprigs there ok he checked to make sure the intercooler pipes were all on and tightened. he thinks that it might be that an injector came out but i dont think that could be possible ### the car wouldnt start and you could see the gas fly everywhere. im not sure what it could be. ### help. thanks

can someone help me narrow my search as to why my car only revs @ 500 at all times and dies when i try to drive it? thanks

yes thats correct sorry for last post internet kinda slow right now

oh and the car dies after about a minute of running

It sounds like your best bet right now is finding out the code you're getting which is causing your CEL and see where that points you. It will point you in the right direction of where to start looking. That's what it's there for, for diagnostics. There most likely isn't going to be anyone on here that can say what is definitly your problem. You're going to have to find where the problem is and then either repair/or replace the faulty component. Don't be afraid to use the search feature as you will find the answers to mostly all of your questions have already been answered. Sorry if this is not what you want to hear, but I am just being truthful and trying to get you to understand that YOU are the mechanic and YOU have to apply yourself if you want to get this figured out. Don't give up and keep an open mind.:thumb:

thanks man i will check the codes tomorrow when i can by an analog voltmeter. then go from there. i will search the forum when i find out the code thanks.

well hey GRAVEDIGGER my sister is mad that i wont let her on so i will be on later or tomorrow. thanks for the help. till later my dsmer's, OUT. :hellyeah:

hey there man i hope this will be of hlep

chek the timing first, remove the spark plug of piston one and insert a long screw driver and chek if it is all the way up, remove the cover of the camgears and the marks need to be face to face to the inside. remove the timing cover and chek the pulley of the oil pump.

post feedback if it works

one good advice change the spark plug, the spark cables, and chek the camtriger and camsensor, trottle position sensor and all related to the air fuel mixture

hope you solve your problems

ok ive checked the timing and its fine so now back to square one. and what is this thing attached to my valve cover (pic) the breather is completely filled with oil. and i tried to get the codes from the computer the way the haynes manual said to but when i looked near the fuse box there is no plug like in the pic of my manual.

well it was attached to one of the bolts that held on the fuel filter.

ok like i said a few posts ago i tried to get the codes from my car but this plug is not on my fuse box (pic in circle with arrow) where could it be? and if anyone knows if there is a datalogger for the palm CENTRO or if the other programs work with it and could give me link to it. thanks

ok i just got my answer and yes the MMCdlog does work for the palm CENTRO if anyone else is woundering ### i just downloaded it and installed it to my phone and it works so now im very happy. now to make the cord for centro which mite not be so easy unless someone has already bet me to it and can give me the schematics thanks

ok ive been looking at some compression forums and it is starting to make me worry becuase the i bought it from did a compression check and he said it was 120 on all 4 so is that good or should it be higher? i cant find a forum with the answer. thanks

I believe 122 is the service limit for turbo cars. Which doesn't mean that your car won't run, it just means that it's bad.

Did you do the compression test with the car warmed up or cold?

im not sure really the guy i bought it from did the compression the day before i came to look at it.

If it was hot, then you need to do some serious work, if the car wasn't warmed up, then you should be ok. Probably be best to do another one, but I doubt 120 across the board would cause your car to die when you give it gas.

ok ill do a compression check when the weather allows and that might not be till Friday.

well now the CEL is on and the car will only idle @500 rpm and it stays there even if i try to floor the gas. its running really rich according to the air\fuel ratio gauge. and i thinks its out of timing not to mention that the oil pump is not pumping oil into the engine and the reason i know this is because when i put the valve cover back on it was dry and when i took it off it was still dry and so was the oil line to the valve cover so we ran the car with the oil line off and no oil came out at all so something is wrong there. and the turbo clicks alittle but really bad and it does spool and run when idling but i know i will have to replace that soon.

Just noticed this post, truth is you probably are running insanely rich causing your car to flood out and die when you give it more gas.

Having no oil in the valve cover would be a big problem, how's your oil pressure gauge when the car's on? When you take off the oil cap when it's running is there oil in there?

Did you find the spot for the voltmeter to check the cel?

As for the running rich you could have a bad injector that won't close so it's always spraying fuel, you could have a bad coil pack or spark plug or wire not firing properly and causing the car to flood and die.

You could also have a clogged catalytic converter preventing the exhaust gases from escaping and telling your o2 sensor that you're super rich because of it.

It's not a huge problem you have it's just that there's multiple things (more than I listed) that could cause it, hopefully the CEL will shed some light on it.

ok thanks i will check all that when i can. thanks

sounds like a fuel pump to me.

Could be, could also be the wiring to the fuel pump (very small gauge) frayed or not able to carry the current. Could be a low battery not providing enough juice to the pump, or a bad alternator not providing enough juice to the battery LOL.

But he's running rich according to the o2, so something else is probably the culprit.

well now my gauge says im running stoch on the little lean side. well my dad says he can hear the pump come on because its really lound. and im still woundrying why my car doesnt have the ECM plug near the fuse box?

well now my gauge says im running stoch on the little lean side.

It takes awhile for the o2 sensor to get hot, until then it won't send a signal and will read that it's lean, if it's just idling it could take a few mins easy for it to get hot enough to read correctly.

well my dad says he can hear the pump come on because its really lound.

Really loud fuel pumps usually mean that they're aftermarket or that they're going out.

and im still woundrying why my car doesnt have the ECM plug near the fuse box?

Me too! You need to find out where it is/what happened to it. Maybe post a separate thread about it, but I think that all cars had them.....idk

ok ill try to find it because for all i know it could be an after market ECM in it. he had the engine rebuilt for raceing down in FL. somewhere a year ago its still under warrenty he said.
