Ok so I just finished my 6 bolt swap about a week ago and the engine started just fine. It ran for as long as I asked it to and didnt turn off on its own. All I needed was a battery cause the one I had was dead. So yesterday I got a new battery and installed it but the starter made a strange noise the first time. The second time it started up just fine, but after about 5 seconds the car died. I continued trying it over and over and it still did the same thing. Even while reving the engine it still dies. I am really lost at this point so any help would be appreciated guys. Thanks

Yeah.....any thoughts on this? I just did a search and found this thread because my car is doing the EXACT same thing. I'm stumped....

Check the alt and the batt. Try jumping the car and leave the jumper cables attached. If it runs then you could have a weak new batt and a bad alt. Also check the feul filter. Could be running out of fuel.

Alternator and Battery are brand new. No CEL's. I'm sure I have a boost leak or two, but nothing large enough to keep the car from running. I reset the ECU, put my DSMlink settings back in, and it started right up. Idled great and revved great. Then it started smoking a bit, so I shut it off. The smoke was coming from the exhaust wrap I have on my DP that got some fuel on it. No biggie. I go to start it back up and it won't fire up. WTF!

It has a CEL but I havent gotten a chance to get it on the scanner yet. I am going to do that tonight. I tried the jumper cable thing last night and it didnt work. The alternator is pretty new so I am pretty sure its not that. I looked for vacuum leaks but didnt find any. I will do a boost leak test tonight too.

My car threw a CEL while cranking. It was a cam angle sensor circuit malfuntion. I unplugged it, blew on it, and plugged it back in. Car fired right up and idled perfectly......for about 5 minutes. Then it died and wouldn't start again. No new CEL's....played with the CAS, but it did nothing. I'm done for the night....

Have you verified your fuel pump is staying on? Are you running stock ecu, or standalone. My AEM decided that it shouldn't turn on the fuel pump if it was less than 40 degrees out. Took me a week to trace down. Exact same symptoms.

Bad caps in the ecu, bad ground wire from the engine to the body, CAS is going bad.............. OR IT'S A DSM AND THEY ARE TEMPERMENTAL!!!

if and when you get the cel checked out..if you get code P0340 thats your cas..my car would start and every now and then play dead...changed it out after i got tired of getting stranded..and the things starts all the time..

Heh. I just went through this, too. I got a 2gb CAS at autozone for $80, but I can't pick it up until tomorrow.

Every time it decides to act up, my fix is to unplug the sensor (easy on a 2gb), blow on it, put it on and make sure it's snug. Then the car usually starts (have to try that a couple of times sometimes).

Also, the first time it crapped out, it didn't throw a CEL until after it started working again.

NOFX0617: Check the CEL and get back to us. It'll probably help a lot.

Checking the CEL narrowed it down. It gave me a bad Camshaft signal so I swapped it out with one that I luckily had and the problem went away. Thanks for the help guys.
