2G Car Revs, But Doesnt Move Help

I bought the car knowing the clutch was kind of bad its a 97 talon tsi awd. the clutch felt like it wasnt fully disengaging, liek it was at about 50% and wouldnt disengage, the pedal came all teh way out, slowly (weird) and i had this werid burningish smell (guess it was the clutch burning up), so basically 2 days after i get it home i try and take it out for a spin to see if i hear anything to pinpoint the problem, i make it down the street and then i just lose all my power. the car shifts into gear, the clutch pedal goes in and comes out, but the car will not move.

im thinking blown clutch..

Now before i go blowing 350 bucks on a new clutch kit i would like to be sure of this, and i really dont feel like taking it to a shop since me and my boys can just do the work ourselves.

Forgive me im also still generally new to DSM's.

So blown clutch? or should i take a look at the Slave/Master cylinders (master had fluid in it)

I had the same issue with my saturn and my RX7. Both times I needed a new clutch. Check everything over first, but Im going to guess clutch.

what do you mean by "i make it down the street and then i just lose all my power"
does the motor rev up and the car does not move? If so then for sure the clutch is gone.

OK so i just got back from my inlaws where the car is sitting

well you can push the clutch in and shift into all gears and reverse no problem

you can then let the clutch out, and still shift into gears, the stick shows slightly more resistnace though but goes into gear, and nothing happens no stalling nothing put it in first and let the clutch all the way out and no stalling nothing, also when shifting no sounds are heard form teh clutch/tranny area, its completely silent


so is this a bad clutch completely? or is my tranny ####ed!?

Looks like the easiest way to tell would be by just dropping the tranny... whether it's your clutch or tranny the only way to fix either of them is by dropping it.

Would a bad slave cylinder cause this?

Probably not. It sounds like the clutch is gone.

But if you want to be positive it is not the slave the get under the car and watch the clutch fork while someone steps on and off the clutch for you. Watch the travel and see if it moving the way it should.
