I have a '99 eclipse gsx. It will not start. I yanked the plugs and i'm gettin good blue spark on all 4, but they are soaked with fuel.. I checked the compression and it seems to be fine.. Only thing i can think is it's the FPR or coolant temp sensor.. I did notice water running out of my ignition module when i disconnected it, so i think maybe it could messed up. (even though i'd think i would not get spark is the I.M. was the issue.)

I does try to start a little, and will almost idle at times.. but i can smell good ole premium unleaded coming out the exhaust. I know i am gonna have to change my oil cause it probably has a ton of gas in it. Mitsu tech sugguested the MDP/MAP sensor, Coolant Temp Sensor, and FPR.. I think i am going to start with the Coolant temp sensor since it's like $35 bucks.

Any Advice appriciated

-Josh

**UPDATE**

After i noticed it flooding again today after trying to start it again, i yanked the injector wires off the injectors.. Then tried to start it.. It actually started!! but only for about 5 sec then it quit. So i now know it's has to be somthing jamming fuel into this thing..I'm sticking with my coolant temp sensor i guess. (had to order one today). I will update on what happens.

If someone else has sugguestions please feel free to add.

*UPDATE*

i put on that coolant temp sensor and ignition module

still does the same thing

cylinders 1 and 2 flood out and car tries to run on 3 and 4.. if i yank the injector wires on 1 and 2 the car will actually run for about 5 sec then it runs out of fuel.

if i hook the 1 and 2 injector wires back up after i run them out of fuel the car will start and hit about 1000 rpm then it just dies out.. pull the 1 and 2 plugs and they are flooded again.

Does this sound like a fuel pressure regulator issue?

Sucks nobody has helped me out on this.

Anyways, i just ordered an ECU. Don't know what else to try after this.

No new mods when this issue started. It was running fine when i shut it off last, then i came out one morning and it was doing what it's doing now. I was thinking maybe leaky injectors but i wouldn't think 2 would go at the same time. I have some new 580cc injectors but i'd need an safc before i put them on.

if i yank the plugs, clean them up and crank the engine over to get all the fuel out. Then put everything back on the engine will fire up hit about 1k rpm and then just flood on those 2 cylinders.

As far as VAC goes. I looked and made sure all the vac lines are connected. Also when i go get it runnin on 2 cylinders i'm gettin some vac on my boost gauge.. Not a lot though since it's running at like 200 rpm and sputtering.

Have you verified that your coil packs are actually working properly and that you're getting spark to the cylinders that are flooding? I've attached a quick diagram for coil pack testing that may help.

Just a thought,

Andy

I pulled the plugs layed them on the valve cover. I have good blue spark to all 4 plugs when i turn the engine over.

Also the 2 cylinders that are flooding are 1 and 2. So that means 2 different coils..

Well here's what i've narrowed it down to so far

1. I have Spark
2. I have compression
3. I have fuel (too much on 1 and 2)
4. I have not checked the timing yet, however the car probably wouldn't start with the injectors unplugged like it does if timing was an issue.

So i'm thinking either the ECU or 2 bad injectors on 1 and 2.

Another update.

Just put in a new ECU.. Still flooding on 1 and 2.. I'm bout ready to throw in the towel and take it somewhere.. When i first put the new ecu in it actually fired right up and then sputtered and quit.

Anyone else have some sugguestions? Could this be a cam/crank angle sensor issue? Would a bad TPS cause this?

**Update**

Ordered a 1g CAS going to do the rewire in a few days and see what happens.

I'm having similar problems. What's strange about your problem is that you have no modifications to your car. For me After upgrading my injectors to 660cc's, SAFC, and going with a 2g maft at startup in the morning if I don't hold the throttle all the way down my car floods with fuel. I have tried to diagnosed the problem to no luck. I have not replaced any of the parts you've replaced though so maybe I should. Two of my friends have recommended me I go with AEM EMS to solve my problem, they said I would be able to control how much fuel is dumped at start up thus eliminating my problem. Let me know if you have any luck as I'm going to try replacing the MDP/MAP sensor and Coolant Temp Sensor and see if that solves the problem for me at least.

Still no luck after putting a 1g CAS and doing the rewire. Same thing happens.

I gave up.. I have a 6 bolt 2.4 magnus engine going in soon. Hopefully Something in that swap fixes my issue. If not then i'll diagnose it with my buddies AEM/EMS. We shall see

** UPDATE **

Well figured out what it was, the timing belt jumped 3 teeth.. And there you have it!!

She's still getting a 2.4 engine swap.

Good luck with your swap, :thumb: I'm going to be changing my FPR and coolant temp sensor next week and see if that fixes my flooding problem.
