cant plug my car in @ laptop what kind of adapter?

got tunerstien today with oem fit plug at the data link. problem is the the end you would plug into the laptop is a 9 pin sierial port. my lap top has a 15 pin port.
should i adapt 9 pin to 15 pin? the guy at best buy says i need an adapter 9 pin to usb. what do i do?

The 15 pin connector is a VGA video output not a serial port.

You want a keyspan USA-19HS usb to serial adapter or some other brand that also uses the FTDI chipset which supports the non-standard bit rate of a 1G ECU.
