I have been using the How To from this URL:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/1g-clutch-pedal-removal-install.389980/

I have done everything that the How To mentions. I just have one problem. There is a piece of metal getting in the way that the assembly is getting hung up on.

The how-to cites being able to rotate the assembly. My Speedo cable is completely out of the car along with the steering column and I can't rotate the assembly much less get it past the below notch no matter what I do. I don't really feel like using an angle grinder down there and it seems strange that I'd need a hammer.

Here is a pic of the hangup circled in red.

Any ideas?

P.S. The how to misses the fact that you must not only remove the cotter pin to the brake pedal, but you must also remove the elements that it holds, e.g. the white washer behind it and the pin to release it from the master. I also noted a spring that goes to the clutch pedal that wasn't noted. The longer part of the spring faces the driver's seat. Finally, I had to carefully wack the studs for the slave cylinder towards the firewall to help free the pedal assembly.

It should just come out. It's a bi*** but it should not have an issue coming out. Mine came right out.
I have read that the brake booster needs to be removed. I can easily bend the assembly BADLY before it will come out. I might just pull the brake booster out. Did you do that as well?

Thanks

My booster was removed before I removed the pedal assembly. The rod out of the booster into the brake pedal arm is what's probably holding you from rotating the assembly properly. (as well as the brake booster studs themselves)

Yea, I had to loosen the booster and pull towards the front of the vehicle to gain some clearance. I have pulled my trans 3 times and find it easier then the 1 time I removed the pedal assembly but re welding the pedal was well worth it.

Lol guys. Thanks. So I pulled the brake booster out of the car after pulling it back to no avail. The nuts on the silver plate at the firewall as shown in the writeup remove the brake booster from it's mounting. I had to remove 2 brake hard lines to it along with 2 brake rubber lines. I also had to remove the line going from it to the IM. Finally, I removed the 4 bolts holding the vacuum solenoids above the booster to make sure that this would all come out easily.

Note: Be sure that you don't get brake fluid on your paint!
