So I finally got the new o-ring in my turbo and I am putting it back together but I can't get the snap ring back on. I'm using a pair of pliers and I can get it clamped as much as you can but it still seems like it's too big to fit into the groove. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You mean the compressor cover snap ring?

first make sure that your compressor cover is properly align. Also the snap ring have tapered edge, if you put it backwards, it will not slide in. I use a snap ring plyer and a screw driver, clamp the snap ring as much as you can then slide the snap ring edge into the slot then push in with screw driver.

Get a pair of needle nosed pliers, file down the tips to where the tips will go into the holes of the snap ring ... works both way - with internal and external snap rings...

It's a good "Band-Aid" tool until you head to "Harbor Fright" and get you a snap ring pliers kit.

You jam the ring in a vise or use pliers, you'll bend the ring out of round and square to make it totally usless.

When I rebuilt a 14b, I just went out and bought a proper set of snap ring pliers, never regretted it. That 17.00 was worth not dealing with the aggravation you are having right now.

Here man I did photos just for you...

Works like a charm, doesn't it-for both external and internal rings?

You know when you're definitely a mechanic when you can improvise stuff to make it work well for you - no fun going to stores and buying stuff when you got the resources at your convienence..
