it's the only bolt that threads towards the transmission, I finally got the oem.bolt specifically for it and it won't thread by hand at all. I got the rest of the bolts on when i installed the trans outside the car. I can't see if the threads are erased or not. seems to me if everything else is bolted on that being out of alignment is unlikely.

is tapping a new thread the only option? or even possible? how much risk can come from a single missing bolt?

If I understand you right you are talking about the bottom one at the back of the tranny. I say u need it in there. On my old fwd n/t I didnt install it and I ended up breaking the ear off the black where the front one threads into. Since the back one wasnt installed I can only assume that from getting on the throttle and shifting hard made the tranny twist forward with enough force to break the front ear off so I would deffinetly find a way to put that bolt in so you dont expierence this

You do need all four bolts! It can cause the tranny to push away from the block and cause disengagement issues and it could shear the clutch disc rivets off the hub from misalignment. The latter happens more often from missing dowels, but I'm sure its still possible.

I always drill and tap mine for a 10x1.25 bolt since the stock one is 8x1.25, which is kind of small. It will probably be tricky to drill the hole straight with the tranny in the car.
