cant find the oil leak

Just like the title says i cant find where the oil leak is coming from as it appears to be getting all over the timing belt and slinging it everywhere so im not sure, second i keep blowing a lot of white smoke, its still a fresh rebuild with less than 50 miles on it.any help would be great thanks guys. What is the color of the smoke? did you do a compression test? and have you removed the balance shaft?

I have removed the balance shaft and i forgot to use a bolt into the old balance shaft pulley and it was leaking from their.

Do compression test to see if your fuel ring has been washed out.

the balance shaft is still in the motor but the belt is cut so it does not rotate now. and the smoke its pure white like a cloud, no distinked odors. and now that i installed the fpr it runs right and sounds right but has an accasionall back fire. and no i have not a compression test yet, i dont own the tool, and the pisston rings still havent been seated yet is hasnt been driven nearly enough for those to be ready. and theres no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil.

I would suggest to do a cylinder leak down test and that will help you pinpoint where the leak is b/c white smoke would indicate that you have coolant getting into the cylinders. I have have a car with warped head and I had no oil in my coolant or coolant in my oil.

the head and block are fine both were machined at faultz prior to the install

White smoke is coolant. Water is getting in somewhere if not head gasket or warped head or cracked head possibly turbo if its water cooled.

Did you replace the bolt for the front balance shaft tensioner pulley?

no i didnt ### theres no belt. so i never even messed with the balance shaft

First guess is bad turbo. Second is cracked head. Third leaking head gasket. I would take the intake off your turbo and check for shaft play. Then check the torque on your head and if it checks out then more than likely you have a cracked head. But if the head was already at the shop I highly doubt it's cracked to just start with one idea and keep going until you find it.

You at least need the bolt replaced in the hole. Might be where that oil leak is coming from. White smoke out the exhaust means coolant is getting into the combustion chamber somehow. All the reasons have already been mentioned in previous posts.

the turbo has 0 shaft play there is a little oil in the intake pipe. i just put another head gasket on yesterday to be sure, its still blowing a lot of white smoke. and what bolt hole? the blance shaft is still in there ive never touched it.

The one circled in pink/on the left. Not only should the bolt be there, it should have thread sealant on it.

The coolant leak wash the tstat housing

the smoke comes out the exhaust and and off the exhaust manifold. the spark plugs look like they have oil deposits on them not coolant. even i know white smoke means cooolant. but ive put three head gaskets on this thing, its not warped and i dont see coolant in the cylinders. and when the first head gasket blew itw blew out right underneath the tstat housing, and i thought the oil leak was from the head to so i swaped it 2 more times and now the oil is gone from under the tstat housing but the new one under the cams side is baffling, and i have the bolt and pully on there still so the oil is not coming out of there, good idea though. the turbo has a little oil in the cold side and through the intercooler piping. i called a friend at trev tech here in vegas he agreed with stuckwithgsx that the turbo could be bad and he said oil can still produce white smoke in that amount as well not just coolant. what are your guys thoughts now. im beyond frusterated with this car .

All possibilities for white smoke have been mentioned. Does your coolant level decrease over time? Are you absolutely positive it is white smoke and not a light gray? I find it difficult to understand why burning coolant would spit black residue on the pavement. Personally, I'd start suspecting oil burning.

could be grey as my eyes arnt what they used to be. and the black marks i looked at too and thought oil. and as for the coolant no it does not seem to dissapear, but i just fixed the tstat leak 20 mins ago, so i will find out if it leaks or not. but to the best of my knowlegde the coolant is fine.

are you running to rich? My car after a fresh rebuild was running 11:1 afpr... Off course im on direct speed density and the car ecu was blowing its mind trying to figure out whats the deal. If your running at 11:1 at idle you will smoke light grey smoke, almost white, and while spit fuel onto the pavement. Just a thought!

Heres the Answer to the problem. It was not the head, the turbo was toast i had to re-build it, the other part of the leak was a bunch of stuff. The OFH was leaking as well as the crank seel and oil pump shaft seel, along with camshaft seels. now its almost done and about to be back on the road. thank for all the help. Mods Can mark this as resolved.
