ok so im on my second year of boces so ik a lot about engines. my 4g63t eclipse is at my school is pissin oil all over the belts but i cant find the oil leak. it has a balance shaft elimination kit on it and idk if it is leaking from there or where. my teacher thinks it is coming from the big peice that the oil pump is part of. he just thinks that because he cant find the leak. will someone please tell me where common leaks are around these engines. i checked the valve cover, cam seals, crank seals and the headgasket.:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

The first thing I would do is clean everything off so when you do start the engine you will know exactly where it's comming from. I use either engine gunk or easy off Oven Cleaner let it sit then rinse off and get everything as clean as to can.

As part of the BSE kit, you get a plug for the shaft on the oil pump. When this is installed, you need to seal the plug something like an epoxy. If it wasn't sealed properly then this is probably your issue.

+1 to engine dye.

I've had my oil pump sprocket nut come off and oil come out of the shaft. Make sure the nut is tight, also make sure the corners on the valve cover gasket, by the cam caps are sealed. Or could be cam seals. X 2
On the dye.

ik its not the cam seals because i jst did a headgasket over the time i wasnt replying i put rtv on that plug for the balance shafts but it seems not to be helping to much my teacher thgiks that it is the enitre peice that the pil pump is a part of. he just thinks this because he doesnt know where it is. where can i get engine die and how do i use it that would be my next step. for anyone who wants other info. i had huge idle surge problems. it turned out to be the recirculation tube from the bov to the intake. it was loose so check for this next time someone has idle surge

A video is a much easier answer.

well hell. ok ummm any ideas where it could be coming from? im going to go do this tonight but i want to see if anyone knows where else there might be troublesome ares. also my oil light is on and has been on since i bought the car. doesnt matter how much it has in it and if imat idle the pressure is under where it says it should be on the stock gauge. but as soon as i get up in the revs past like 3k it will return to inbetween the two marks on the gauge.

Well sounds like a bad idiot light, i didnt trust the stock gauge for oil anyway swapped out for aftermarket one, to find that leak you may have to start tearing things down ive got a few but im dealing with it once it gets warmer out. Oil leaks start in one place then drip over to other areas or could be a number of places.

Take off the timing cover, clean the engine with degreaser, put dye in the oil, let it idle, and make a video of the exact spot where the oil is leaking out. Post the video on here, and wait for 100 answers of where we think it's leaking from. The answer that comes up the most is the one you are looking for.

It has no timing cover and I put dye in it with weird results. I found some small leaks around the pan which I know has a bad gasket but then I found something interesting. I found some oil on the bottom and left side of the timing tensioner. However it wasn't on the top of the tensioner which leads me to believe a bad crank seal? Someone please pop in with an idea. Also I think my oil pressure unit is messed up not the light. That also had oil leaking out of it but miniscule ammounts and the wire that is leading to the idoit light is all cobbjobbed

Ok so I was just down there today with the light and there was oil on the tensioner and all over the engine bay. Also my sending unit is weird I figured out why the oil light is on. There is no wire going to the unit. There is a wire going to the pressure but not for the light. Can anyone tel me where on the engine that wire may be hiding so I can hook it up

So your CAM seals are still dry? If your cleaning EVERYTHING up really good. and running the engie with dye in the system . Theres no reason you couldnt see it start to leak.

Im guessing its your crank seal. leaking and hitting the balancer/etc and tossing it everytwhere.

Yea I think Its a crank seal so I'm ordering a full gasket set because I need both exhaust manafold gaskets and a oil pan gasket so that is just cheeper thanks for everyone's help and ill update if that was the leak or not

... just had the starter sullanoid fall off ik that not spelled right. anyways it arced and burned out my starter so thats another 120 bucks i covered parts with rtv and it has seamed to slow down the oil leak any other areas? cam seals are dry
