in my ggsx, i have just finished my turbo swap, fired up the engine, runs fine, but oil is dripping from somewhere on the flywheel side. i have a new rear main seal in there, i'm trying to think of anything else oil could leak from on that side of the block.
anybody know of any oil passages on the flywheel side?
funny thing is, at the bottom of the flywheel, where the inspection plate is, where rear mains will normally drip oil, it's dry! the oil is running out from somewhere, and finding it's way to the clutch slave cylinder and dripping from there.
right above the slave cylinder is a bellhousing to block bolt and i see oil there but can't see above that to find where it's coming from.

Did you replace the output shaft and axle seals on the tranny? :dsm:

no i didn't, but i have it up on a rack at work and can watch everything underneath as it runs. i haven't driven the car at all yet. nothing leaks from the axle seals.

yup, thought of that, watched right underneath it as the engine runs and it's dry as a bone.

Theres a few oil gallery plugs I'm sure but if they weren't leaking before, they aren't leaking now.

Only other thing is the rear main seal, the rear main seal housing and the oil pan seal/rtv. My bet is the rear main was put on dry and the crank ate it up before oil was able to lubricate it internally or it was installed incorrectly.

Take the tranny off and start it and watch.

Easier said than done. The starter actually bolts to the tranny so if the tranny is removed, there is nothing to bolt the starter to.

There is 5 oil galley plugs in the passenger side of the head. Actually, one is the oil feed for the turbo, but you get the idea. Anyway, check and make sure they are not leaking. One of them is hidden below the thermostat housing so it can be hard to locate. There is also one oil galley pug in the back of the block behind the flywheel that may be leaking.

Only thing else to leak would be the rear seal, seal housing, cas, vc gasket, half round plug in the head, or the oil pan. I had a similar problem one time and could not find the leak for the life of me. I ended up getting some ultraviolet oil dye and a blacklight and found my leak within minutes. My oil pan had a hairline crack which was causing the leak. This was after I had already replaced the rear seal in hopes of curing it. I just wish I had used the dye in the first place. It would have saved me some labor and frustration.

isn't UV dye is great?? God without it AC leaks would be soooo hard to find. And it does help you pin point oil leaks.

My best was probably going to the be original oil feed from the head or the half round valve cover gasket. Usually the 2 things that get played with the most and will leak from it. The O-ring on the CAS usually doesn't leak unless you installed it with dirt on it or if it is just plain dry as a bone or flat. I know I was leaking from that damn oil feed. ended up getting a fair amount of oil in my bellhousing from it. Now I have a mess to clean up. I hope you find it. Try out the UV dye. Just need some yellow glasses and a UV light which you can get in a kit at a lot of automotive stores these days.

i did lube the seal before installing it, but it was another 2 weeks or so before i fired the engine...i wonder if the lube kind of dried up and/or ran off there? i installed the seal squarely into the housingr, no gaps or anything. new gasket on the seal housing too.

i'm going to do the dye thing and see if i can find it. i'm sure i'll end up pulling the trans though, so it iwll be a while since i can't really work on it all the time.

I'd check the plug above the rear main cover...I've had those leak plenty of times...fun to get to though..
i'm betting that's what it is. going to dye it and pull the trans later next week and find out for sure....
