Ive had this for about 6 months and never could install it without leaking in the spark plug wire valley. I was told that I need the original hyundai valve cover hardware, but others have done it with bolts. I tried about 10 times with no luck. I went to the dealership to get the hardware. The hyundai valve covers had studs, rubber washers and bolts that sealed better on these valve covers. Anyways they said $187.00 for 16 bolts, washers and studs. So I said forget that and I finally found the hardware on a 97 hyundai in a junkyard and was so happy. Finally got it to stop leaking. Here are some pics.

Very nice. I almost picked up that version Hyundai valve cover at the junkyard last week, but settled for the old school red and silver cover from the 1.6.

Looks great, makes me think twice about rocking a stock-looking cover.

I was about to sell this because it always leaked. Had about 5 tuners on here say its cracked. My mechanic said it was because you cant use regular bolts you need the hyundai hardware. Everyone on here said that was wrong and all you need are longer bolts. They also said the mitsu seal was the same. come to find out the seal is also different. I love the way these look, I have 2 more covers like this that im going to powder coat and sell.

Jay, I like your new avatar much better than the other one. :)

Why couldn't you use some sealant product from Permatex? Perhaps something from the list below might of helped you?:

Anthony thanks for the reply on the avatar.

I was told by my mechanic and a few others that you should always install this gasket dry. That no sealant is needed. Im sure I shoud have tried. I had to use a little RTV on the little half moon seal, but that was about it. Im sure that some sealant would have worked also, but I dont like using that stuff if I dont have to.

Ill have to get a pic with the sun hitting it, the candy really comes alive.

Any particular reason why not? Or just something you don't want to delve into?

I had best results with mine by using stock bolts, a stock gasket and some permatex black gasket maker. It's not the exact same cover, but should be close enough.

Look at your cover Kyle. Its exacty like a regular 4g63 cover. Mine is a little different. Its actually taller and the seal is a little bigger. Your hyundai cover is different than mine. I had both mine next to each other and if you measure the thickness of the seal it is different. The used seal that was off the 97 hyundai fit way tigher and better than the mitsu seal. It even was better than a auto part store hyundai replacement seal.

I dont like using sealant where you dont need to. Its messy and not as clean.

I changed out my factory valve cover seal a little while ago.. even mitsu used sealant on it.. around the moon, the edges where the cam humps are, and on the 4 corners... jayrolla, did you shave that cover or it was like that? I like that look.

They used sealent to hold the seal in there while they put it on. thats mainly the only reason. The moon needs it though. Oh yea this is a stock hyundai valve cover. Came off 94+ 1.8's and 2.0 engines.

Jay, I work at a Hyundai dealership and if you need help sourcing the proper gasket I can get you the number to our parts department. Just PM me.

Thanks man, I used the old one and it works great. I already made friends with the one here. Its not leaking, so I guess the old one worked better. Next time I will get the oem gasket instead of the part store one. It fit better than the mitsu gasket but it was still not as good as the OEM one.

It was a 2.0 at a junk yard. I think it was a elentra. Cant remember. I originally thought these covers where only on 94-95 but I guess I was wrong. They must have been on quite a few of these.

Nightspeed you link does not work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

currently I have a metallic sparkly silver looking valve cover on top the engine till we can figure out all the problems and get it on the road, my red one in the picture got chipped up in a couple spots from motor installation, but im going to fix it back nice and put it back on when im done with everything.

That VC is sexy Jason and I'm really digging the new avatar. Glad you finaly got everything to seal up properly.

Sweet thanks Andy. I like your Avatar better also. Looks sick. Ill have a 2gb one day. Also how you get such a clear pic. When I load my Avatar its always blurry.

Your pic is blurry because the original probably isn't super sharp. Photography's a biatch that's why I have a pro (my wife) take all of my car shots. Try it again with a faster shutter speed and see what happens.

Not only that, but use a high quality program like photoshop to re-size it. Mine looks good because andy's wife took it, but then I re-sized it in photoshop.

I've been able to keep it "clear looking" by using even my own crappy photos though.

See, even Kyle has his own personal pro photographer!
