Well guys I had them photoshop my car in candy apple red and I'm loving it, only one problem. I'm thinking I want it a little darker. I'm posting the photo so you can see what I mean. Now I know you have a base coat when you do a candy apple type paint. My question is what base paint color would you suggest if I wanted it to be darker then what I'm looking at here? Or would putting extra layers of the candy paint on darken it up considerably? I've seen it done with a gold shimmer base coat and it looks good but I would like mine a little darker. Thanks

one of my friends bikes was painted candy apple red and i think its a sick color for red. otherwise red is the most disgusting color on earth :barf:

yeah I hate just red, but the candy apple is pretty sweet. Now that I've been researching more though I've seen its said its really hard to do a good job with candy apple paint if you're an unexperienced painter. So i might go with my earlier inclinations of doing black or blue, leaning more towards black though.

I personally feel that the new Dodge Charger red is one of the most amazing reds I have ever seen on a car. Though, thats just my personal opinion. It is just a bit darker then that, but has a real depth to it, not sure if you can really consider it candy apple though.

i saw an interior of an eclipse somewhere online...it was fiberglassed...and painted a candy apple red color on the interior...its looked very nice...i honestly dont think its that bad of a color

You have to remember that A candy color is semi-transparent so if you paint the car in a dark red base first then you will have a darker red candy color and the more coats of candy red that you apply the closer it will become the candy red and less like the dark red, so basically what I am telling you is to start out dark and then lighten it from there and keep applying your candy red until you are at a color tone that you want. Spraying a candy is not as hard as some people say because it is all in the technique like all different styles of paint from metallics to pearls to candies they all have a different technique, for a candy you will need to pull the gun away from the panel a little more than a regular base I would say about twelve inches and you will have to close up your overlap to about 75% and lastly you will need to spray it on a little dry, you don't want to hose it on real wet because that will create dark and light spots known as tiger striping. Have fun.
