can you use evo 7/8 rods and pistons in a 2g dsm?

I have someone who might be able to get me a set of factory evo 7/8 rods and pistons for a really good deal, but I was wondering if they would fit in our cars. I was thinking they would be a good idea since they supposedly can take more boost than our factory rods and pistons and they are designed for a daily driver, which my car is. Anyhow, anyone know if they will work? Thanks.

why are you worried about it now since at a 14.5 you are about 200 hp away from getting to the factory rods limits?

I would venture a guess that they would not be an exact match up and by the time you get done with the machining you could have simply bought a set of rods.

The evo7 engine is not the same as the 7 bolt dsm 4g63s but similar in design and concept.

i dont care about the factory rod limits... im not building the motor any time really soon. if i have the opportunity to pick up some new pistons and rods for really cheap (aka, less than $100) then why not, as long as i know i can use them sometime down the road? i know its not the same head, but i know the block is the same and i thought maybe stuff like pistons and rods might be interchangeable, and might make a good upgrade for those of us looking to keep the car streetable. its not that im saying forged rods and pistons are not streetable, its just that they arent the best thing for a car that is daily driven.

anyone else have any input on the matter?

theres 2 dsms in the chicagoland area that I know of using 1g big rods on evo 8 pistons, and they run fine. soon to be 3

awesome, just what i wanted to know. if anyone else has any info on any modifications that need to be done to make these work, lemme know.

I have evo 8 pistons on 1g rods and my car runs good and revs quick. I hit full boost with my TDO6 20g around 2100 rpm. And i love it I can't complane :thumb:

how the hell does evo 8 pistons and 1g rods make a turbo that spools at ~3800rpms spool so much earlier? i feel something tugging at my leg...

DING DING DING! Did you hear that? Thats the bullshit meter! Pistons have nothing to do with your turbo spool-up time.

well, if you run higher compression pistons then it could spool faster... but are the evo 7/8 pistons higher compression than stock 1g/2g pistons?

Yeah but I have a hard time believing a 20G turbo would spool as fast as a T25 with only a piston swap.

i hear ya... that might be a good way to go though since supposedly they are good up to about 23-24psi and they are higher compression... quicker spool and able to handle decent boost. sounds good to me.

He meant he starts building boost at 2100.

so does anyone know the specs on it, im gessing they have same bore and stroke (gee i wonder what would make me think a thing like that) but i mean like, how much whp are they good for? how much psi will the extra compresson doc you (im talking max psi on the 1g pistons, 7.8 cr, and the max psi on the evo8 pistons,8.8cr)

and most importantly.................

WHERE CAN I GET A SET????

(wait.....i know of a place,.....damn....www.mitsubishiparts.com)

edit:DOH,....forgot they dont sell the evo8 block and pistons/rods/crank yet.....but for when they do (cuz thats probably about when ill be in the market....) anyone think that the crank will help at all? (im guessing it would be a good idea to replace a few bearings at the same time if your replacing the crank....)

you can get a remanned crank kit for your car, I highly doubt an evo8 crank would fit in a dsm, plus its a 7bolt. what you have to do to make evo 8 pistons fit on 1g rods is bascially the same thing as making 2g pistons fit on 1g rods, just a little diff clearances. Stock evo pistons have been knows ot handle 500whp, so if I was ya I wouldnt be shooting for more than that.

so a set of 1g rods and evo 8 pistons would work rather nicely with a 50 trim street car... hmm, it will be interesting to see if more people go this route.

anyone dealing?....i wanna know where i can get the hook up from, and for how much, cuz i might be able to fit this in my budget....

anyone know if the rods will fit a 6 bolt....er wait you said the evo was a 7 bolt crank right? Were the rod specs any different from the 6 bolts? I've also got a chance to grab some pistons and rods for cheap. Anyone know?
