Has anyone ever tested a tranny out of the car? Maybe some kind of rig with a drill connected to the Input shaft and go through the gears one by one? Im asking because I have a tranny sitting in my yard and I dont know the history.

Thanks.

If your buying a transmission out of a yard, your already taking a risk for a cheap short cut, why the hell would you want to test it?

I understand the risk, Im saying I have the trans already. I want to hear if the bearings are bad before I install it. Anybody know how to check it out on a bench without tearing it apart?

Your not going to hear bearings over anything that could power the transmission out of vehicle. Is it a manual or automatic?

Yea, I didnt think about how loud the drill would be. Its a 5 spd FWD Turbo Tranny. Thanks.

just put it in each gear and spin the input shaft by hand, it should have some resistance but it should spin by hand. listen for noises etc.. thats what i have always done when buying a used trans.
