Can the mafs cause stalling?

I was wondering if the air flow sensor would cause the car to stall? I have a HKS on my car now, but the filter part is gone. And that leaves the sensor to all the elements. Could this be the problem for engine stall?

so you dont have an air filter on the car?if so,yea that will stall it because the mas gets a bunch of crud in it and can meter air like it should.plus all that crap goes throughout the engine.

So is there a way to clean the air flow sensor? I mean is there a special cleaner or solvent I should use?

you could probably use that electronics cleaner spray they make for computers and such.i think they sell it at walmart.

OK, This is what I did. I went and got some sea foam and cleaned the mafs. The masf almost looks new now after I did that. Put it back on and it still stalled. So I took my aftermarket intake tube off and put the stock tube back on. Now there is no stalling at all and I get more boost. I was running only 9 psi with the after market intake tube. Now with the stock intake tube I am running 12-13 psi. I for one don't understand this at all but I took pictures of the aftermarket tube so you could all see. Just click on the pic and it should maximize. And I highlighted concerns of my own on the welding of this tube. If anyone has any idea why this tube made my car stall. Please let me know. I also inspected the outside of this tube and I can't see any holes by the naked eye.

I found my stall, But it still does an idle surge on cold starts. If the car is moving around 5-10 mph and come to a stop sign it runs up to 2500 and cuts back to 1500-2000. It does this for about a minute and then settles at regular idle. That is annoying!!!!!! WTF
