I was looking into buying a braided clutch line from the master cylinder directly to the slave, but I realized it will bypass the clutch damper. Is there any negative effects of removing the damper?

If I read correctly it makes the transition of engaging and disengageing the clutch less smooth
Here are a couple VFAQ sites that detail it
Club DSM Canada 2G Clutch FCU Removal
Clutch Restrictor Removal FAQ
the bottom one tells of having to relearn how to launch due to him bogging it all the time due to faster clutch engagement
read up as much as you can in VFAQ it helps out a lot I can't tell you how many binds that site has gotten me out of.....I.E. a full timing belt replacement FAQ to look at

There's no real negative effects of removing it. Mine's been gone for over 4 years, and it's been great.

Such "accumulator" here on the forums to learn more about eliminating it.

Did you have to upgrade you transmission to handle greater force of the clutch engaging and disengaging?

No, not at all. However, I haven't personally ran a stock trans in over 6 years.

It doesn't make a greater force. It's just slightly decreases the time it takes for the clutch to engage or disengage. And quicker is better, IMO.

There is lots of info about it in the forums on here. You likely won't even feel the affects of ditching the damper. If you remobe the restrictor (i believe it's called, correct me if i'm wrong) from the slave, then you will feel it grab quicker. My car was running no damper (when it was running :( ) and I noticed a difference.

i took mine off right after it was on the track for the 1st time...it was total JUNK. You could press in the clutch, release, and it would take a good 2 seconds to meet up foot back at the top of the pedal... It prevented me from shifting anyway other than what a granny would, and caused some major slipping action.

The only thing i had to change was the clutch pedal adjustment after. My buddy even used the stock hard line from that to the slave, by redoing one of the ends.

I just bought a 96 awd turbo eclise and i had to replace the trans and i bought one from a salvage yard and the new trans came with this clutch damper. well i took off the new cause the guy that owned the car before me put a breaded clutch line from the master cylinder to the clutch release im afraid it might mess something up.... so i dont no what to really do?!?!! everything is still pretty much stock on the car!
