Bought my talon with no spark or fuel along with a few other things and after gettting into noticed some wires that didn't appear to be going anywhere but im guessing there's something missing and haven't been able to figure out what it is. Can anybody help me out? the car is a 94 talon tsi awd 5speed. The harness has a few black and yellow wires going to it, one black and white wire, and one black wire going to it if i remember right. the other group has one red wire, one red and yellow, one black, one blue and black wire, and one blue and red wire.

I'm pretty familiar with the 1g engine wiring so I am going to subscribe to this thread in hopes that you will post a picture of the wires or at least give a description of what they are near in the engine bay.

ok here's some pics, they aren't the best but it should help anyway.

I thought that you were talking about the engine harness, which is what I have a bunch of experience with. However, I do believe that the plug with the black/yellow and black/white wires coming out of it plugs into the ignition switch. It looks like someone might have spliced into it to install some sort of remote start or security system or something. I'm not too sure about the other wires. Maybe the anti-theft system?

You're so kind and helpful 9!'clipse :)

Thanks :thumb:

Sorry i should've specified more. They're coming right out from under the dash. None of them were plugged into anything so im thinking maybe there's some component im missing. The guy i bought it from said it was from the anti-theft but didn't seem to know much about the car so im not sure if it was something he put in and then took back out, or a factory thing he tried to remove. The fuel pump doesn't pump, no spark at the plugs, seat belts won't retract, and there was something with the lights that weren't right. I don't remember if the headlights wouldn't come on or the brake lights didn't come on but it was something like that. The engine does turn over though. Im away at college and haven't worked with it for a while so im trying to go by memory.

If the 80 AMP ALT Fuse is blown, you're headlights, windows, seatbelts, and raido often wont work either as well as it will crank and not start up. I would check that first. It is the black 80 amp fuse that is bolted into the cornor of the underhood fuse box (by the air filter).

Check out this thread: car wont start windows wont roll up for a perfect example.

Here is a picture of the ALT fuse:

It is held in with two 10 mm bolts so make sure you take those out before you start pulling on it.

i checked fuses as soon as i got it. all appeared to be good. i could try switching it out just incase there's some hairline break in it. I think i tested it with a DVOM as well though and it was good. Maybe i'll try tracing the wires that that fuse protects and see if there's a break in that. When i bought it the guy said it ran great until the new transmission was put in and after that the whole no spark no fuel etc thing started so he thought there's probably a wire that may have gotten pinched when the trans was put in. Do you know of any wires running by the transmission that this could happen to and cause this?

any suggestions? mfi relay is good, i believe all fuses are good, i'll check relays. Other then that all i can think of is if there was something important taken out from where those wires are from, a pinched wire somewhere by the transmission that would cause all this, and also i heard in the 94's you have a have an ecu from a 94 or it won't work. anybody know if that's true?

One of my friends sold his laser and didn't have an ecu for it so i let him sell it with my ecu so as of now i don't even have one. But i know the one in there when i bought it wasn't the original one and doubt that it was from a 94 but im not sure if it has to be or if one from 91-94 are the same? i know there's a difference from a 90 to the later 1g's. I'll make sure to go through that diagnostic page when he gets me another ecu which should be soon. also my fuel pump didn't run at all/had no power getting to it which is another reason i suspect the wires under the dash because one of those wires according the manual (i think the black with white stripe one) carries power the pump, coils, seat belts retractors, MFI relay, and a few other things. So obviously if that harness is supposed to be plugged into something that isn't there, it could easily be the cause of what's going on.

A little late but i did end up finding out what the problem was. I took apart the plastics covering the steering column and found one of the wires that go to the ignition switch simply wasn't pushed onto the connector. Started right up after that.
