my 1990 Laser RS Turbo:

This is more for educational reasons because I don't really see it as a problem.

I got a exhaust on my car, all I know about it is it was fairly cheap (for a exhaust) its 2.5 inch diameter, 3 3\4 inch tip, and tis a mangaflow.

now when I start the car in the morning, my exhaust is real quiet (not the engine noise! the noise coming out of my exhaust)...like so quiet it sounds like its stock. But as I drive and the car warms up it gets louder...and louder...and louder (not complaining I like a loud car) and the car also runs better too as it warms up (as in, more responsive, more powerful, etc.)

Is this just due to Heat Expansion or is something getting in my exhaust and clogging it up every morning?

I do blow out black stuff out that covers the road or all over the car behind me every time I give it a little rev (like up to 2-3k) when the motor is cold in the morning. (haha take that stupid bitchy neighbors white minivan!)

dsm s always run, boost, drive better when their warm. I dont think anything is clogging your exhaust in the morning ,, the cars just cold and oh ya its 20 years old -- older cars must get warm -- my 95 gsx runs like complete crap untill shes up to opperating temperature -- then shes a great fun snappy car,, untill then i let everything warm up and expand in that motor before i boost her

its just something you have to accept as a boosted motor much less a 20 year old car

and the sound thing with your exhaust, mine does the same,, starts out stock sounding, then gets nice and loud,, my M3 does it as well

so expanding and warmth will change the tone of that exhaust yes ill agree with you on that

The ECU pulls timing and runs rich when it's cold. That zaps power.

The black crap you blow out the end is carbon mixed with condensation from the exhaust being cold. I started my car up with the garage door closed once. It left a nice mess on the white door that day.

My exhaust actually gets quieter as it warms up.

when your car is cold, the exhaust gasses that go through the exhaust aren't as hot and therefor more dense(ie:take up less space). this colder more dense gas doesn't move through the exhaust as fast as it would after the car warms up so its quieter. once your car is warmed up, the exhaust gasses are very hot and much less dense so they take up more space and need to move through the exhaust system faster...moral of the story is; more flow=more noise

Thank you all. some handy bits of info there :thumb:

:tease: I do enjoy blowing it all over peoples cars that I don't like in my Apartments Parking lot hah.

i hear you there...the exhaust on my car is a thermal r&d from like 7 years ago and before i rebuilt the engine, aparently it burnt a lot or oil and random crap so whenever i take off i get puffs of black smoke as carbon and random solid particles of junk in my exhaust heat up and get thrown out. HOORAY for pissing people off.(i drove my car around back streets for 2 days then a cop decides to spend about 2 hours just down my street)
