I took my head off and found my knock sensor in what looks to be rough shape. The rubber insulating coating on the top where the wire goes in is melted a little but not fully. You can see the top half of the screw on the sensor but i was just wondering if i could use this still?

THANKS

You most likely could reuse it since it's just a microphone, just put some rtv sealant around it. If you feel otherwise, just buy a new sensor and forget about it.

Just replace it...If it stops working all together and doesnt pick up knock when there is some you could detonate and then you would feel silly that you didnt just replace it when you noticed it could be bad.

Preventative maintenance will keep you out of trouble. When in doubt replace it. Thats what I do.

Yeah, i figured so. I had already ordered it in but was just making sure.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions

If you can see the screw I would replace it aswell, if your strapped on cash and need a band aid fix, you can try some silicon to reseal it.

If the goo has melted/leaked out AT ALL, it needs to be replaced. Cheaping out on your cars knock sensor is one of the top 3 worst things you can do to a dsm.
