I am currently running one fan due to having not installed my 6 month old slim fan. It ran fine through the 115 degree california summer with one so I think you will be fine.

The fan on the passengers side of the car, if it is wired with the original wiring, will come one when the car gets to a certain degree. The left fan is meant only to come on when you turn your A/C on. The reason it does this is because when you use your A\C, the condenser that sits in front of the radiator puts off a lot of heat. In order for the car to run at a decent temperature at idle with your A\C on, you need to fans to suck enough air to cool the radiator and the condenser.

The way i have done it in the past is the wiring for the passengers side fan has a high and a low speed setting. (blue wire, blue w/ white strip wire, black wire, black w/ white stripe wire) I dont remember exactly which one was high and which was low speed but i ran the high speed wiring to a relay and hooked both slim fans to that relay. This way when the car hits a certain temperature, it turns on both fans instead of one. My main reason for doing this was i was running a Koyo all Aluminum radiator which is a lot thicker than the OEM one. The stock fans would not fit correctly with the turbo i was running so i had to buy slim fans. I also wanted the drivers fan to kick on at the same time as the other one so that it could also blow air onto the turbo itself.

I would not recommend a push fan setup unless you are totally in need of space and have taken out your A\C Condenser. The push fan and pull fan setup, with a big turbo, stock radiator, and in hot climates will not work as well as 2 pull fans.

I dont have a/c at all but have both my fans set up to come on full blast soon as the ignition is on and its been like this for a yr now with no problems and seems to help.
Im doing away with the a/c fan for clearance and putting a push fan on the other side of the radiator in its place. Should be ok considering I never really needed too fans anyways.

If you A/C Condenser has been taken out, you should be fine on running one push and one pull fan. Good Luck!

Yes you can, your a/c fn only turns on when you actually turn on your a/c. You might want to look into slim fans if you are pressed for room.
