2G Can I ever get rid of this cel without link?

Before I did my egr and evap delete, I got a p0400 code (egr). I swapped the egr solenoid to a known working one, cleaned the connections, etc, then immediately did the block off and hose delete. I kept all the solenoids connected but I still get this code. I swapped the solenoid again and still get the code. I never get codes for the evap or fpr solenoid.
So I'm figuring the connector might be bad, and that the cel would still be there even if my egr was still intact. I don't have link, so I can't just disable it. Is there an easy fix? Im getting sick of clearing the code after more than 20 mins of driving. I was going to snip a connector from a 94 galant at the junkyard and swap them, but it seems ridiculous since the only reason is to avoid a cel. Thanks in advance.

Have you tested the EGR solenoid?

Make sure your vacuum lines are routed properly from the throttle body to the egr valve and the solenoid .

Un plug the connector and plug a volt meter into the harness plug. Start The Car and See If youre getting 12 volts to the plug. No voltage and you know it's the wiring.
Finally got around to it today, voltage from the plug is good.
Have you tested the EGR solenoid?
I don't have a vacuum pump offhand, but I used a multimeter on 3 different egr solenoids I have and they all read the same, and since the solenoid is disconnected the fact that its pulling vacuum is irrelevant anyway, correct?
I thought the only thing the ecu looks for is the electrical connection, hence the reason 2gs need to keep the solenoids plugged in.
Is there something else I'm missing here? I found another thread with the same problem, but no solution. I don't understand why only the egr solenoid is sending a cel. Thanks guys

Is it a code designated to the egr specifically? if not it is more than likely another component in the emissions system.

I don't know if anyone realized but a p0400 is an EGR insufficient flow....Which if you put a block of plate is why you are getting that code. So....you need link or a black box ecu.

The ecu only checks the solenoid connection, hence the reason 2gs need to keep the solenoids connected when doing the egr block off and hose delete, assuming there is no tuning software to turn it off manually. If your egr is blocked, the only reason you would get any egr related code is from the solenoid.
I had a 97 GST with emissions/evap delete and stock ecu and never got a code with solenoids still connected.
Furthermore, I've found that these solenoids are sporadic. Depending on which one I connect, it will take a few hours, days or even a week for the CEL to pop up. On my 97 TSi the code never pops up when I connect the same solenoids. This is how I'm sure the solenoids are working properly.
As I asked in a different thread, I've noticed a great number of reconditioned/reman ecus on ebay for the same year. I'm tempted to get one and see if there's a difference.

Sorry sir you are incorrect. The ECU knows the EGR isn't flowing when the "PCM did not detect enough change in the MAP signal after the EGR solenoid was commanded "on" and "off". " straight from the Mitsu OEM service manual. A solenoid is an electronically controlled valve. Whether that is on or off does not accurately tell the ECU if the EGR valve is functioning. Thus why the MAF car also has a MAP sensor for emissions purposes.

Ok so why does merely having the solenoid connected prevent a CEL on 2gs after egr delete in almost all cases?
Never had this problem before.
I'll probably start another thread for this, but what do you guys recommend for a stockish setup, EPROM or black box? I don't plan to really build this car at all.

Quite correct, although on the 2g instead of a MAP sensor it has a MDP (manifold differential pressure) sensor on the intake manifold plenum.
