I'm planning on taking my engine out and completely rebuilding it to have a NA engine in my car for springtime but the last mechanic I went to said that I would have to drop my engine out from underneath the car.....is it really impossible to chery pick it?

Yes you pull it out the top of the car. I dont know what the hell the retarded mechanic it talking about. When I took my engine out I definately 'cherry-picked' it as you call it. You cant drop it down. Theres a crossmember that doesnt give enough room if I remember correctly.

Thank you so much I thought it sounded alittle fishy.....I can't wait to get started on this me and my 2 other friends just installed a clutch in a 2002 Acura RSX Type S and on a scale from 1 to 10 the book said that was a 9 so we figure this should be a fun project for the winter.

No, I am my own mechanic. :thumb: As far as diffuclty of taking out the engine, I didnt think it was that hard. Then again it was the only engine Ive ever taken out. I just disconnected everything, labled it. Then I attached the chain to the block. Then lifted. Ooops, Im a retard I forgot to disconnect the downpipe from my header (n/a). I felt so dumb. My freinds all had a good laugh about that one. So dont forget and make the same mistake I did.

hey guys i was planning to pull my engine in dec or january and i wasnt sure myself were to cherry pick the engine from. What do i hook the hooks onto to lift the engine out without breaking anything LOL. what are the hook points.

well even i thought i you'd have to drop the trans to pull the engine in general, even if you dont i think it be alot easier to drop it anyway less crap in your way than.

Anyone know were i can lift my 420a engine out from what points.

he is right the crossmember blocks the engine from being droped. But the cross member can easily be unbolted. the engine would have to be supported with an engine support or a cherry picker. so since it needs to be supported anyway, you might as well just lift it from the top and save yourself the head ache of removing the crossmember, lowering the engine (porsche style) with a jack and craddle or a cherry picker, raising the front end super high, pull the motor away from under the car and just to lift it again to put it on a engine stand. buy the $200 engine hoist and save time and frustration. plus when you realize how easy it is to remove a motor and you bought a hoist, you can do swaps and engine removales as a side buisness. I charge like 400-500 depending on the car.
