Can a leaky xfer case cause a car not to shift?

Toronto,
Noticed alot of overspray under my car possibly from bad seals. Anyways, my car's transmission locked up on me and wouldn't get into gear until 40 mins later ..cooling time? So it drove home and made a whine in first gear only. Got under the car and noticed overspray, not sure if it's from before though from another leak that the previous owner didn't clean up. I'll have to check the xfer case fluid levels.

But could the leaky xfer seals cause my transmission to not get into gear?

Thanks for the help

The same thing happened to me. All I had to do is replace the seal that connects the transfer case to the transmission which was the one that was leaking. For the 2 seals it was like $14.

I doubt its your t-case. If your transfer case lost all fluid and seized, you wouldn't have been able to drive after that or it would have shortly seized up again. Definetely check your t-case and transmission fluids and fix that t-case leak with a new seal or new yoke and seal if its a 1G and you didn't have the recall done. It could be a number of things in your tranny including the clutch, gears, syncro, shift forks...etc. If its not fluid related, better bring your car to a good DSM shop for them to check it out.

The fix is the same for a 2G correct? Recall was done so I hope no major damage has occurred to my t-case.

To be honest, it was almost 100% likely due to my slave leaking on me. But with that case came ALOT of other issues suddenly brought to light. Such as a bad alternator diode, dead battery, leaky t-case and loose starter bolt causing grind.

So, I just need to verify that one problem wasn't the cause of another.
