Ok i have a 98 Eclipse GS, gutted the cat, 3 inch exhaust, and CAI. Not too shabby, its a nice increase in hp....so we ran this boy wit a type S on tha freeway. You can pretty much say he spanked us( iwasnt the one driving, but it was my car). So I'm lookin into a HAHN stage 1 or 2 kit for my GS. In addition, i'll get new injectors, new clutch, and fuel pump and maybe other lil stuff (new wire sets, small stuff ya kno). I know RSX Type S pushes out about 200hp. With the addition of all this (esp the stage 2) i should def be pushin beyond 200hp. So will i be able to smoke a type S? (i mean off tha line, in the long run, etc...). I mean i want to know if i can take this typeS from start to finish with no problem.

Also...is it cool to hold gas, while shifting? Will this ruin the clutch in anyway?

with the stage 1 it should be a close race.

with the stage 2 you should beat it from a stop...or roll...and 100mph+

holding the gas down while shifting isnt bad if u dont miss the shift, its an easy way to keep the RPM's up in between shifts

yea thats why i assumed it was better...because it keeps the RPMs up...how come I never hear of anyone ever doing this though when theyre racing? Only a friend of mine suggested this to me and to only do it when I bet money because its bad for the clutch??

I dont think its bad for the clutch if you do it right and have practice/experience. My mechanic drives like that all the time the only thing he use clutch for is 1st and reverse. Sop i got into my friends 5sp honda to give it a shot, sweet. I never knew you can do that. It was easy and smooth for me , went right in.(guess i got a good ear.)
so after that i told my cousin totry it while we were cruising , hes got a 97 esi, and he couldnt get it for shit. So we switched and io drove it, and guess what ,......it was like butter. If you do it right . You can drive like that all day everyday.

EDIT : you have a bigger chance of screwwing something up not using clutch while racing , then you do around town or on the highway.

ur talking about shifting without using clutch. I mean using the clutch. like this....

GAS
HIT CLUTCH, DONT LET OFF GAS
SHIFT GEARS
LET OFF CLUTCH

not lifting off the gas inbetween shifts is alright as long as you do it right... if you are bringing the revs up higher inbetween gears, you're going to get a bunch of broken tranny parts.

o ok i get what ur saying, the process of holding the clutch and gas and shifting isnt the problem...its when ur in high rpms (ie: 6k rpm), and i do it and it overrevs right? because i tried it in 3rd gear at around 4k rpm, and the rpm jumped to about 6500rpm

wouldnt shifting without the clutck in you situation be easier and faster, than youre doing.

My suggestion is that when you shit you only partially let off the gas:

Gas
Push down clutch, let off gas 20-40%
Shift
Release clutch as you floor it simultaneously

One mistake I make is to let out the clutch too fast. For some reason I have to slip it ever so slightly (Still really fast though) and it grabs better.

what if you let off completly? clutch, let off gas completly, shift, let out clutch, give gas....how much time is lost in the 1/4 shifting like this...is it safe for the tranny? and if you shift and when pressing the gas, what happens if u hit rev limiter?? i had to replace my harmonic balancer pulley the other day and was told it was bcuz of high revs

this is very similar to dbl clutch but easier. what do you guys call this? power shifting, no lift shift?

i think it's call speed shift. power shift is when u shift without pushing in the clutch.

i remember reading it some where at the 1000questions site.

OMG

HOLY SHIT NO!!!

You want to rev match. Not speed shift. The DSM tranny is WAAAYY to stubborn to do that type of shifting.

Learn your car, the shift points, the match points, and you will have a more fun time driving it. Itherwise you will be buying rebuilds, syncros, and differentials.

Be careful.

You have to do it RIGHT and will most likely waste the tranny doing it. Again, you need to learn you shifting points, IE when the rpms are eqaul to the gearing in the shift you are about to try and accomplished.

Have you ever pushed your shifter out of gear before pushing in the clutch? Well if so, it does the same if you time it right into the next gear (up or down). Not recommended though. Atleast not by me.

ok so lets say i got the HAHN stage1 kit (stage 2 is a lil too high priced for me), and i keep my straight pipe and exhaust, upgrade injectors, new spark plugs and wires. Will this be enough to smoke a typeS? How much HP should I expect to gain with this?

i beleive i've heard of shifting without the clutch referred to as "syncro-shifting"?? that sound right?? i used to be able to do it in my old hatchback civic. never did it with any regularity though and never when going fast

Dude even with Stage 1 youll rape his ass if he doesnt have anything major done to his car. I have raped over 6 modded RSX's with my stock GST..they just cant compete with the advantage of a turbo. RSX's are really not that quick of cars stock..sure i have seen plenty that have been modified the hell out of..actually my friends brother owns a 380 WHP (something like that) RSX and thatll rape me anytime..but if your talkin a RSX that is close to stock..yull rape his ass bad even with stage 1. Ive even driven an RSX and i know its something like 200 Horsepower, but guess what, while i was driving it it didnt feel like i was driving a 200 Horsepower car, more like a 170 Horsepower car. Im not being biased in any way or form, Type S's are really nice cars and all but, the fact is a fact, there not that great, if i was to spend that much money on it, id put some more in and buy a EVO. Youll take him :thumb:

after all the magic is worked in the engine you were driving 170hp at the ground (est.) which is almost what the GST/X lays on the ground, correct? you just feel it WAY sooner.:dsm:

i just want my money's worth or else i'll just save that 3000 or so :( ouch that price just breaks me. But i basically want to be able to straight kill most of these honda h22s, acuras, SRT-4s, ya know, most cars that people drive on the street. Also, how much gas does getting a turbo guzzle? Also...how would i pass smog with the hahn kit on my car?

turbo cars are great on gas....if you dont boost. If you do 90% of your driving in vacuum like I do youll get good mileage. As far as turbo'ed n/a eclipse I dont know, you have to change and bump the fuel for a turbo so it may suck.

wow that RSX doesnt have much torque at all does it. But that 1/4 time is a little fishy, is that what it actually runs, so this means it is faster than a GST??
